Now, I would normally never bring this up, and I looked into it before deciding to share. One can look at my history to see that I am not this type of person. Here it goes.

I got curious when I read on another forum that The Last Jedi had a 5 minute sample leaked and Disney immediately took it down, now obviously everyone bashed on that as fake, so I decided to do a little research and apparently correct...

The Last Jedi work print has leaked.

According to the story, Disney were given 3 deadlines (I imagine for ransom) and apparently no comeback was given (maybe they didn't believe them?). 5 minute samples were sold anonymously to groups that leak stuff for bitcoins. 2 groups bought the 5 minute samples. Other people were asking for proof, and a mod on a forum for leaks was sent 2 screenshots, one of Rey and Finn reuniting at the Rebel Base, and another unconfirmed ending scene. The mod who apparently has a good reputation said they seemed legitimate and that Finn was wearing clothes never before seen in any trailer or publicly available picture.

The leaker spoiled the very beginning 2 minutes and the last 30 minutes (in a couple of sentences). Which I will not bring up. Now it's apparently been sold to someone for 6.5 bitcoins and the deal was that they had to prove that they were capable of stripping all watermarks and audio tracers from the copy and that it was not to be released publicly until at least Nov 10th (don't know why and don't know if that will happen).

That's all I have, believe it, don't believe it. It honestly makes no difference to me. It just makes me a little sad that it has gotten to this.

I have no proof of any of this otherwise. Just thought I'd share this with you guys.

I can also understand why Disney would absolutely not want this information to go public.

 

Would you care to share what kind of research you have done and why it made you conclude that the leak rumor is correct? If this is indeed true then someone has dropped the ball bigtime over at LFL/Disney!

I went to the source of the leak. Watched it all unfold in front of my eyes. No one wanted to pay the asking price which was 1 BTC for a full copy, but 2 paid 114$ for a 5 min preview (don't remember what that was in BTC). Eventually after verification someone paid 6.5 BTC for exclusivity. Apparently it wasn't a hack, it was taken from within and it was someone who at this moment still works at LF. The employee got paid for it, and the leaker wanted to get his investment back and +.

It does! I'm already sort of pissed at knowing the twist which apparently happens with a half hour left in the film.. again, I really hope it doesn't leak publicly. I know I wouldn't watch a copy with unfinished CGI SFX (which apparently is the case) no matter how much I want to see it, I'll wait for the cinematic experience, how it should be experienced!

 

Just tell us who Rey is already!!!!!!

No. That wasn't me, although I fell on that article and have been looking for it ever since I found out about Pablo leaking Season 4 of Rebels being the last one, turned out to be correct.

I honestly don't know that, like I said it was two sentences, one of the beginning and when of the twist, and all I know is what happens or otherwise what direction the last 30 minutes take.

 

1 Bitcoin at this point is worth 1600$ so 6.5 BTC would be 10k. If that is the price of exclusivity AND enough to get return of investment that employee must have been paid at most a couple thousand $. I would imagine anyone getting anywhere close to the full work print at this point gets at the very least a six figure salary. Seeing how 100k/year counts as below the poverty line in parts of the Bay Area the Lucasfilm/ILM guys probably get way more than that.

What I'm trying to get at is, I don't think anyone working on TLJ would risk an awesome job for essentially peanuts, especially since stealing a work print would probably even entail lots of possible legal trouble in addition to never ever working again in the industry.

 

Never saw a thing about that 5 minute preview. Just read it on another Star Wars forum, that's when I decided to look into it and fell it on live.

I agree 100%. The deal was it was going to sell only to those who were able to strip watermarks (and apparently there were a lot and on many parts of the screen) and audio tracers. Reason being the workprint would be easy to trace at the source considering where the film was at when leaked and the 'leaker' wanted to protect his 'friend' at LF.

I have no idea how much the LF employee got. Never discussed.

 

Message me what exactly happened in the footage. Also, how could they have the footage since roam Johnson is still editing? What if the leaker is actually the employee, although I don't see how it's possible to smuggle anything out of the buildings at LFL. Their worlflow is so heavily secured that you can't sneak footage out at all.

 

I'm not claiming to have seen ANY footage myself. Just watched the whole debate and transactions unfold stunned. While doing i was doing that, groups were asking for proof, the leaker spilled in a couple of sentences the beginning 2 minutes and the twist. Which I will not discuss. Surely people will appreciate that.

 

Here's a less spoilery question(although still somewhat spoilery). Is ReyLo a thing in this movie? Please for the love of the force, let it not be so!
