There is a new scene description from MakingStarWars showing the soon-to-be iconic embrace in the throne room

I'll leave the speculation for the conversation to follow, but I will say this: The author (who has seen the concept pieces) makes several statements, like, "Imagine if Luke Skywalker, after getting his robotic hand in The Empire Strikes Back took sand paper to the flesh on his robotic hand rubbing it off in places" and "This figure could have a beard if need be", even going so far to say he believes this scene is on Skellig Michael where "Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley" were. He ends with speculation that this creature, the one who has come to be called the Grave Robber and some think to be a cyborg (although he specifically mentions "depending on who happens to be the man behind the mask", pretty much states right there that it is, indeed, a mask) "is someone we know from the past, his face could be reconstructed as he does not appear to have any structural damage. Maybe this figure appears evil and actually isn’t?"

Seems my speculation that this is Luke Skywalker, and that he is not evil (or a cyborg) are gaining some weight....

While I greatly appreciate Jason and the fantastic work he has done, MSW does have a tendency to take something then jump around 50 feet forward to make a conclusion.

I personally don't think we should draw that many conclusions from this new piece except for a couple main things.

    1. It seems to confirm that Boyega will be the one save Ridley from falling to the dark side

    2. We will have an R2ish type droid owned by Ridley

    3. The little alien guy (Serkis?) seems to have a bigger role then most people are admitting.

Nothing too groundbreaking but definitely very interesting stuff

What drove Anakin to the dark side was loss, or the fear of loss.

At the start of EP7 we may have seen Luke lose more, or believed he has lost more.

Maybe Daisy is one of the things he believes lost?

in terms of art descriptions matching up to set locations and known actors at said locations.. your right that weight is definately being gained.

so many of us have so many expectations and hopes for the new films.. the only one that comes back around for me is to have Luke as a wise old powerful Jedi master.. looking as we've seen him recently. I hope his role isn't "twisted" from that too much.. but i'm sure the films will be great regardless.

I think there is room for both... with him being kind of a Sean Connery in Robin and Marian type character... "aging none too gracefully, returns exhausted from the Crusades"

Wisdom is often hard earned... would be nice to see him a little weary...

If it is Luke I bet it's Ridley's version of the tree cave from Empire

Got a five spot says it's Luke and not force-test... and we just aren't looking at it from the right angle

"Zorro" & scenes/elements of the 3rd act of The Wizard of Oz have been discussed at length on this forum.
I was also thinking of the Madonna character in the hit action/musical; D"$& Tracy(1990). That film had a main character a lot like the "grave robber" or "unknown cyborg" who, in the end(SPOILER) was in fact: Madonna's character(female lead)!
The unknown sinister character was in fact, the person shown thru all of D**k Tracy.
It's possible Luke deliberately conceals his identity for a specific reason. OR the "grave robber" character has a reason(not explained or shown until the climax/end) to conceal their true identity(for good or maybe BAD).....

That was kinda my take on it... that if Luke had been captured and taken prisoner, and in that event something like his wife being killed, then the galaxy might think him dead. Enter Zorro, who is free to enact justice while not tying the Alliance in to the deeds he does...

Batman, Zorro... the list of people who do evil deeds in the name of good is long, and there are many reasons why he would be happy to allow the galaxy to presume his demise while he does what needs to be done...

In my view Luke does not need to become captured to slide a bit to the dark side.To me Luke always possessed these qualities (some traits like his father) and he even embarked on the road to the dark side for a short while in my view.Like his father he might have some kind of struggle, conflict within him.Maybe he has in a somewhat reluctant way taking on the role of a crusader, having had enough of the wars.To finally bring peace that damn peace and in that way becomes like Revan, a force that nullifies it all and in that way brings peace and balance. That would mean he like Revan will bring fear, on all sides.Because non of them would understand who or what this third power is.What is unknown one fears and certainly so if it shows to be intimidating and powerful. Both sides would be confused and in fear of this as they perceive a powerful new and unknown threat.

Maybe Luke comes to this conclusion.. going crusader after saving the day in a bad way, where he also becomes a bit injured and becomes a pariah to both the empire the republic. The time he is absent,he is recovering from his injuries and devising a strategy. Many think maybe he perished when he saved them.Maybe Driver is his secret and active apprentice now when he is this crusader. While daisy was his apprentice when he was master Luke.

Sorry, just all seems like embellishment and speculation based on stuff we already know.

We know Hamill and Ridley were shooting on Skellig. We know there is concept art of a castle-like structure, and we know that its setting best matches the landscape of Skellig.
The rest just seems to be a description of the "embrace" concept art, with some imaginative extrapolation that doesn't seem to be backed up with anything concrete. The only attempt to cite a source is the claim that there are more paintings like this one. And yet the description itself is based entirely around the one we have all seen.
Doesn't stack up to me. Doesn't make sense that there would be a series of concepts of the exact same characters in the exact same pose with the exact same elements in the frame. That's the opposite of what concept art is for.
