    Smart move.

The Nest is a comedy targeting female audiences, so they're going for a completely different demographic and won't affect Ep VII's take.

I want VII to beat Avengers 2 next year. That would be an awesome start for the new trilogy.

Yeah, I posted the Tina Fey thing because of the bravado mostly, but yeah "The Nest" offers an alternative to wives and girlfriends.

I don't fear any movie. IMO SW will excede every box office record and that's even if it's okay. If it's great it will smash every box office record.

Silly Tina Fey, don't you know NO ONE will be seeing your movie opening day?

Some of our wives and girlfriends (and unfortunately, a number of the gents) will be kind enough to go with us to the theater... some may even allow themselves to be seen with us... but to actually go into the darkened room with us, as our sweaty palms grasp that extra large tub of popcorn (with extra EXTRA butter) and a drink large enough for a family of 4 to take a bath in...

No, that's what that other movie is there for... to give the ones we love something to do while we do what we love...

LOL Great post! Yes, the "chick flick" is about the only thing that can co-exist with Star Wars. The funny, and ironic, thing is Tina Fey will be at Episode 7 with us. LOL

Star Wars Episode 7 is going to make a'lot of money whether its good or not, but i'm pretty sure its not going to have the top box office record to date.

Might be for the best too. The higher you get on that list the bigger the backlash. (See: Avatar, Titanic, and Avengers). If they want to maximize money over multiple movies they are probably best off if each lands somewhere in the 5-10 all time range.

I'm sure they would love to be #1, but in the end it doesn't matter. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

    Wait.... There's a Beverly Hills Cop 4? Why? Wasn't 3 enough? :p

Seriously, though, next year is going to be long remembered in cinematic history. And my broadband is going to take a hammering in early 2016. :D

Honestly, any other film of this type and Tina Fey is right, no worries. But Star Wars is Star Wars. It is the film juggernaut. Everyone sees it. People will see Tina Fey's movie, but less people than if she chose another date.

disagree: every girlfriend and wife and mom (and anyone else that doesn't give a blast about Star Wars) is going to want to watch something while their beau is geeking out for potentially 2.5 hours. she's marketing to a different crowd, and if anything, it's a smart move to have it happen at the same time.

if anything she's riding on the Star Wars marketing campaign. connecting to that in any way, even if as competition, immediately makes you seen. think of Coca-Cola and Pepsi: Coke spends a huge amount on marketing, generally more than most large companies; Pepsi's whole marketing campaign, on the other hand, is aimed at being second place to Coke. hence all the Pepsi challenge crap. all i'm saying is, she's clever to attach herself to something so monumental because people end up thinking they're connected even when they're not.

That is an interesting way of looking at it, and I hadn't thought of that.

    Here's where I'm coming from:

I say I'm gonna see Captain America, wife says, I'll catch it on Netflix,
I say I'm gonna go to Amazing Spider Man 2, she says really? okay whatever
I say I'm gonna see the first Star Wars movie in 9 years? She's says well, not my cup of tea, but lets go have fun at the movies.
