SPECULATION How big a role will R2-D2/C-3PO play?

Very interesting. You wouldn't perhaps have the numbers for how much total on-screen time they have in each film as well, would you?

Going totally anal here.

Also R2 was about as integral to the PT as he was to the OT. 3PO not so much... I completely agree on the shenanigans part.

 

I think Artoo and 3PO will be around and active. I wonder how much of BB-8 is hype for all we know a few seconds after the highspeed rolling from the trailer he gets stepped on by an AT-AT.

I'm a little worried about C-3PO. Yesterday at the introductory panel, Anthony Daniels mentioned something about surviving six movies and that time will tell if there will be more. Nothing too eye-catching, perhaps, since he is probably just being coy about plot details. However, it reminded me of this tweet of his from back in September:



I'm a little worried that 3PO might not survive this movie! Am I alone? Anyone else think that's possible?

 

Nah they wouldn't do that. I do not think he has a huge role though. Think of Revenge of the Sith. He's in merely a few scenes and barely has any lines. That's sorta what I'm picturing.

 

Unless The falcon's hyperdrive needs fixing all he will be needed for is to get the rebels through a lot of security doors, the rest will be sitting in the back of a xwing etc watching a space battle.

 

3PO dies. That's why Luke puts his fake hand on R2. To console him

 

I have wondered what will be the fate of our beloved droids as I have seen that this new generation has bought there own droids to cover the roles that R2D2 and C3PO had. A few of those that have posted here say they think that 3PO will be with Leia yet everything points to PZ-4CO having that roll. I have also seen all the hype that BB8 has caused and I really see her as having the roll that R2 would normaly have in the movie. It's hard for me to see the heros running around with both R2D2 and BB8 tagging along so I really think that both R2D2 and C3POs rolls in this movie will be minor. PZ-4CO might not get much screentime and I doubt that she will have a major roll as Threepio has had in the movies but BB8 certainly seems that she will take R2s place in this movie. They could balance this out by having R2 stick around the OT characters while BB8 hangs along the ST ones yet I wonder what will be the fate of our two beloved droids in this new trilogy.

 

I'm sure Daniels would know if his character dies, though?

My interpretation is that, because C-3PO and R2-D2 play such minor roles in TFA and only really appear with Leia at her base, it's unclear whether they'll be needed for future films. Episode VIII could very easily leave Leia and the Resistance base completely out.

 

BB8 turns out to be evil and the climax of the film is a battle between R2D2 and BB8, the Anakin Obi-wan ROTS fight song plays in the background. R2D2 loses, C-3po dies of a broken heart, tens of millions of adults and children cry around the world. JJ Abrhams earns the nickname jar jar abrhams because it is universally decided that Jar Jar Binks would have done a better job directing.

 

Cameo - to pass the torch. If they make it to the next chapters, it will still be a cameo with no importance. BB-8 is the new star (whenever we like it or not)

 

I was just thinking about the whole "passing the torch" to a new generation, and the same thing could also include R2 and 3PO. R2 has been my fav since childhood, so I would HATE not to see him in these new films. 3PO has grown funnier to me over the years and I wouldn't want him to be destroyed or anything like that, however I would be open to both of them being replaced by new droids. BB8 has R2's spot, but I don't know about PZ whatshisname replacing 3PO. I would prefer that big red robot at Maz's castle replace him...that guy is sooo cool!!

 

I believe C-3PO will play a larger role than R2, and their adventures will continue in Ep. VIII.

I thought I read somewhere that this is the farewell movie for the characters R2 and 3PO
