I am still confused by how small it was compared to Death Star II.

The Death Star was about 8 and a half times that size in diameter, and obviously much more than that in total volume.

Or do you mean you just can't believe how big those things were? Because yeah. I agree totally. :)

I mean, it crashes and barely makes a dent. That's always thrown me for a loop.

Ooh. Yeah. It should have probably made a bigger dent. I was going to say that maybe the Death Star had shielding, but the shields were down at this point weren't they?

Sometimes it's worth it to not think too much about it. lol.

And with Death Star II being ~160 km in diameter we should be seeing some curvature to the surface IMHO. I live close to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, a bridge that spans 17 miles. You cannot see the other side of it due to the curvature of the Earth. If we're this high up and still see no curvature then DS2 would be so massive that it would draw the Forrest Moon in on a collision course as well due to their mutual gravities

The first Death Star had a diameter of roughly 100 miles (according to ILM in Bantha Tracks). Figure appears to be accurate as fan examinations, matching the equator against the model, yielded similar results.

The second Death Star was originally to have the same size (according to ROJ Sketchbook), but it eventually became "twice" as big (according to ROJ novelization).

The question is "twice" as big in terms of diameter or volume?!

But indeed, during the crash of the Emperor's Super Star Destroyer the Death Star horizon should have been curved (especially assuming that the Emperor's Super Star Destroyer was twice as long as Vader's Executor ;-)

I agree. The Death Star II seemed way, way larger than the first version BUT consider too how the Falcon flew inside the reactor area/core of the station. The newer version could have be 10-25x larger. That's why it wasn't finished yet.

^^ Not really 10-25x larger. The matte painter also featured the Transamerica Building from San Francisco on the far left side of the equatorial hangar bay area painting of Death Star II as an inside joke and size reference which eventually, IMO, determines the actual size once matched to the VFX model.

My blind guess would be around 2-5 miles long.

    SUPER STAR DESTROYER

    Length.
    19 km (62,336.0 ft)
Super Star Destroyers ("SSD" or "Super-class Star Destroyers") are gargantuan vessels that dwarf even the standard Imperial-class Star Destroyers. The shooting model for the Super Star Destroyer Executor in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was 282 centimeters (111 in) long.
