    ARRAKIS!!!!
Think about it. Sand. Desert wasteland.
Why would the Empire need to battle over Tatooine or Jakku? Arrakis has the SPICE MELANGE! "HE WHO CONTROLS THE SPICE CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE."

Not to mention that one of the larger Sandworms could totally take out a Star Destroyer.

JJ is wise to bridge these two epic Sci Fis.

Also remember that it has been said (don't remember where) that the "Battle of Jakku" actually was taking place above Jakku, not necessarily about or because of Jakku...almost as if the two fleets just happened to cross paths there and it ended up on the surface.

Seemingly (as far as we know) Jakku really has nothing of value to offer...worth fighting over, other than maybe its strategic placement in a larger map but we don't know that...

EDIT: Here is what was learned at SDCC, AND Star Wars: Lost Stars was just reviewed by our own @Hard Case, and the book seems to back up what came from SDCC:

    • One year after Endor, Jakku was seen as a worthless world.
    • There was strategic value in Jakku for one power-hungry Moff who wanted to win back the sector.
    • General Carlist Rieekan, a leader of the New Republic, sent a team out to capture a Star Destroyer christened Inflictor, over Jakku.
    • The Battle of Jakku took place in the stars, in the sky, and on land.
    • The Battle of Jakku was the largest battle since the Battle of Endor.
    • The New Republic gained an advantage through better tactics, despite the Empire outnumbering them vastly.
    • The Captain of The Inflictor decided to follow protocol and scuttle the ship rather than surrender it.
    • The ship then crashed to the surface of Jakku.
    • One month after the Battle of Jakku there were no longer any large-scale battles by the Empire and they vanished into a nebula.
So, the Battle of Jakku wasn't about the planet...it was about hardware ultimately.

It is Jakku....it is Star Wars canon.

Maybe they will reveal a big sandworm behind the huge red first order curtain at the unveiling cremony. Kinda like when they revealed king kong to the crowd. :)

Maybe Rey's staff is actually a set of worm hooks! I'd love to see Rey and Finn worm-ridding across the dunes at sunset. Who needs the Falcon when you've got Shai Hulud?

Hey there was a pic of Rey with these extra blue eyes I saw the other day. Damm I wish I could find it right now. Looks like she's on the spice like Paul Atredeas or how ever you spell it.

Hey amn do you remember that group of promo pics that someone posted a couple days ago? One of our members @Trooper uses the Finn one that came from the same bunch. Well anyway that's where the Rey pic is located; her with the really blue eyes......too blue IMO. The spicccccce. Thought you would know so you could post it but its a dead issue at this point.

And the Falcon is there because it's smuggling spice! Get it? Now the real plot twist would be Rey actually being Princess Irulan, or better yet, Max Von Sydow's character in TFA is the same as in Dune!
