I was watching ANH last night and my wife when she suddenly turned to me (during the oil bath scene when 3PO says "Thank the maker...") and asked (with a smile) "How do you think he'd react if he knew Vader was his maker?", and I had to pause and ponder that for a moment...

As we all saw the scene in ROTS, Bail Organa ordered that 3PO's memory be erased. When we again see C-3PO in ANH, he obviously has no memory of Tatooine or the Skywalker name. This now raises two questions:

    1. How would he react to finding out that Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader was his maker?
    2. How would you tell him that?
We all know C-3PO doesn't take bad news very well and (on occasion) seems to just go to pieces when faced with consequences. Thoughts?

EDIT: Upon further thought, NOBODY that's still alive knows (that I can remember) that Anakin made C-3PO....he's like a still-living relic of Anakin Skywalker that is right under the noses of everyone, and THE ONLY "person" that potentially knows (or has an idea), is R2-D2 because as far as we know he's never had his memory erased.....even more interesting!

yeah iv thought about this too. everyone acts like complete strangers... both R2 and 3PO are familiar with the Lars homestead. I think it may have been a fault in the writing.

I have a fun scene in my mind for an alternate ending of ROTJ, after Luke sees the forceghosts, R2D2 beeeps something to 3pO who says: -What do you mean Darth Vader is my father?? (R2 puts his "arm" into the back of threepio´s head & his eyes starts blinking when being updated) then a closeup on c3pO who says: "Oh MY ! what a strange & sad life i have lived" ! THE END :D (PS. i hope he has gotten his old memories back in TFA)

    1. he would complain & say it is all Anakin´s & r2d2´s fault

    2. i would tell him like that, letting R2 update him after Vaders death

George has several times said that the story is told by the robots & they are the only ones that are in all movies, so at some point it would make sense if he got his old memories back . In the new movies C3PO could always tell R2 what a "bad robot" he is for keeping it to himself for so long :D

Agreed, but 3PO DID have his memory erased, and I don't think R2 was ever there in the PT.....but Owen shows absolutely NO recognition towards 3PO...even though they lived together in the PT. Strange.

Owen doesn't seem like the type who gets attached to droids. Sees them as glorified lawn mowers and toaster ovens. Protocol droids look the same, and I'd bet that they all sound the same to him, too.

Would you recognize Siri in 20 years? Some people probably would. I don't think I'm one of them.

i always thought that it was implied that noone (except Luke & maybe Anakin) cared enough about droids to see a certain "individual" droid & that most people can´t tell them apart, since they all look the same (& 3pO has another "armour" when he comes back 30 years later) droids kinda the "slaves/property" in the galaxy,
