    I don't take it as the crazy theory about Jar Jar Binks being evil is true, but he COULD be referring to the "Jar jar is the key to all of this" line from GL...without going into detail since he legally can't (?)

    This theory actually holds up and is re-enforced consistantly throughout Jar-Jar's screen time. Although it is highly unlikely I think we would all love to see our most hated character turn out to be some sort of Sith. We all know Jar-Jar's actions lead the Senate to give Chancellor Palpatine emergency powers, ultimately leading to the Republic's demise, so he was either the "key" reffering to the one being manipulated or the manipulator himself. Love dark Jar Jar theories.

    That line was about succeeding in making him funny / at the cutting edge animation / getting him "working" in general, it had nothing to do with him being a key to anything in a plot sense.
