He does have a part to play but its his stupidity really which allows him t play a part. He should never be in such a position where he is allowed to effect anything of and consequence in any way. The Gungans knew he was bad news thats why they exiled him!

He's far more annoying in the Clone Wars. The episodes with him and Padme are flat our boring.

And that episode where he pretends to be a jedi. The beginning where he destroys the ship made want to throw something at the tv!!

As I see it, Jar Jar Binks goes hand in hand with Lucas' creations such as the Ewoks and the Cantina aliens. It adds that characteristic cheesiness that, on one hand seems off, dorky and even distracting but on the other hand it gives that very particular trait that helps define the SW universe. What -would- be Star Wars without that cheese factor? What would be this whole saga without these stains? It is like a beauty mark, a redeeming imperfection that reminds us that this universe was created by imperfect and flawed human minds, and as such more convincing as a work of art. (ewok)

I never understood the antipathy toward Jar-Jar. Or . . . the level of antipathy toward him. Not even other "cutesy" characters like the Ewoks or any of the droids have generated this kind of hatred. Some claim that Jar-Jar is a racist trope. Yet, they have said the same about characters like Watto or Nute Gunray without this level of hatred. Some have even complained that most "STAR WARS" villains tend to be white British males. Yet again, no amount of hatred toward those characters have been the same as Jar-Jar.

Is it his clumsiness? Other characters have found his clumsiness annoying - Boss Nass and Qui-Gon, for example. Do many fans hate him because . . . he's not cool or even worse, the antipathy of cool?

I feel there needs to be a deep psychological analysis on why so many fans harbor such hatred toward Jar-Jar.
