Many forum members are still confused about canon and legends lore. Here I will present the ranks of the jedi order and the Sith aligned with the canon. My main source will be star wars wikia(copy and pasted) but I will add details myself. Let my know how you would change/add to the ranks.
Enjoy and may the force be with you
    ! (duel)

    Jedi Ranks
    [IMG]

    Youngling-
The youngest members of the Order, these Force-sensitive children were recruited from worlds throughout the galaxy, only to be removed from their families at a very young age so that they would not have attachments and the child would undergo the early stages of Jedi training at the Jedi Temple. A youngling trained in classroom settings with multiple students and a teacher.
    Other titles:Jedi initiate

Jedi Padawan- After being selected for individual tutelage under a single Jedi Knight or Jedi Master, younglings were given the title of Padawan; they were typically taken at adolescence. Per tradition, Padawans would wear a braid to distinguish them as such. Jedi were only allowed to have one Padawan as an apprentice at a time. Following a period of nearly a decade of one-on-one training with a master, a disciplined Padawan was eligible to attempt the Jedi Trials. After completing 'the trials' to become a Jedi, a Padawan would be promoted to the rank of Knight.

Jedi Knight- referring to Jedi who had completed their training and passed the Jedi Trials to become a full member of the Order. No longer attached to a master, Knights were free to accept missions from the Council, or take their own Padawan. Jedi Knights, like the Order they served, were guardians of peace and justice.

Jedi Master- A Knight who showed great understanding of the Force and managed to instruct a Padawan and train them successfully to the level of a Jedi Knight was elevated to the rank of Master by the High Council and was the highest formal rank obtainable by a member of the Jedi Order. Jedi Masters show great wisdom in the light side of the force. Jedi Masters could be selected to be apart of the jedi counsel and past that they could be appointed the Grand Master of the order which only few have reached.
    Other titles: Grand Master(Jedi Council)

    Sith Ranks
    [IMG]

Rule of Two- was a Sith philosophy mandating that only two Sith could exist at any given time: a Dark Lord of the Sith to embody power, and an apprentice to crave it. Members of the Sith were given a Darth title, giving them a sense of being reborn into someone new and leaving behind their old identity.

Sith Apprentice- an individual (and on occasion, a child) chosen by a Sith Master to be their successor.
In order for an apprentice to to reach the rank of master, they must kill the master to take their place. The apprentice will only challenge their master when they are more powerful than he/she.
Other titles: Sith Lord, Dark Lord of the Sith

Sith Master- was a member of the Sith who instructed an apprentice in the ways of the dark side of the Force. Sith Masters sustain full knowledge of the dark side of the force. They would eventually be challenged by his/hers apprentice to be replaced, this insured that each Sith Master was stronger than the previous.

Other titles: Sith Lord, Dark Lord of the Sith

    Great Post!

I would change the order for the Sith. First Apprentice and then Master. From the low ranks to the high, like you did it with the Jedi.

You could add to Jedi Master, that usually only Jedi Master are allowed to join the Jedi Council.

One more rank for the Jedi:
    Grand Master
Grand Master was a title given to the leading member of the Jedi Council.

I'm just going though ranks but I'll add the administrative positions to the list as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

    http://www.starwars.com/databank/cin-drallig

    CIN DRALLIG
An esteemed Jedi Master and a swordsman of great skill, Cin Drallig was the head of security for the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. He is in command of the Temple Guard assignments, and also serves as a lightsaber instructor, as all veteran Jedi are encouraged to pass on what they have learned to a new generation of Padawan learners. Though it smacks of disrespect, Drallig has earned the unflattering nickname of "the Troll" among the Order.

So, more of a nickname than a rank.

I really liked the consular/guardian/sentinal classifications, but those were more lateral positions rather than rank, right?

Like, for instance, a guardian could rise to the rank of Master, while a sentinel could be a knight, and vice versa? Also, anyone know at what point those positions were instilled? For instance, I have a hard time imagining a Youngling dubbed a "consular".

Well I know this says Canon but the Star wars. The Old Republic ranking actually is Canon as well. So we need to add to the sith empire rankings as such
    1 acolyte
    2 apprentice
    3 Lord
    4 dark lord/ sith Lord
5 dark council/ Jedi council counterpart
    6 hand of the emperor
    7 wrath of the emperor
    8 emperor's apprentice
    9 sith emperor
    --- Double Post Merged, Mar 7, 2022, Original Post Date: Mar 7, 2022 ---
FYI I know this only counts for the rule of two but the sith empire. Even though they had that rule, it's never really been followed. There's always been more than just two sith at a time whether it's been the emperor with multiple apprentices. Regardless, the rule of two is actually never been followed, so it doesn't actually exist
