SPECULATION JJ and Kasdan rewrote TFA from scratch as sets were being built around them

I'm pretty amazed this hasn't already got its own thread, a few months late but still just as relevant.

    http://www.theguardian.com/film/fil...s-issue-six-takeaways-about-the-force-awakens

"“We said: ‘Blank page. Page one. What do we desperately want to see?’” Abrams tells the magazine. Adds Kasdan: “We didn’t have anything. There were a thousand people waiting for answers on things, and you couldn’t tell them anything except, ‘Yeah, that guy’s in it.’ That was about it. That was really all we knew.” So tight was the schedule that the pair were still working on the script at Pinewood while extras in stormtrooper gear were being drilled around them."

Isn't this a cause for concern? I can only think of one other movie which was rewritten so soon before filming..

Any thoughts? Has The Force Awakens been rushed out the door by Disney?

Cast Away was stopped for a year while Tom Hanks lost weight. during that time they were writing the rest of the script. These guys are professional writers. This is what they do. Im not worried.

I've been aware of this info for some time, and I guess I kind of assumed it was common knowledge around here. This is precisely why I'm not surprised at all about what will probably be a long wait for a full trailer. Didn't JJ mention also (multiple times) that not only was the original release date pushed back, but that there have been numerous editing delays in general with finishing this product?

Sometimes writing on a cramped frantic deadline like that produces the best results. It's the most natural way and you don't overthink things.

It happens more often than you might think. Many movies have started filming before the script was finished: Casablanca (1942), Sunset Boulevard (1950), Sabrina (1954), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Topaz (1969), Jaws (1975), Xanadu (1980), Jurassic Park 3 (2001), Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (2006), Iron Man (2008), Like Crazy (2011), Men in Black 3 (2012), Boyhood (2014), Batman v. Superman (2016). Some of these movies were obviously better than others on the list.

They obviously had a basic template for a story at that point otherwise they wouldn't have "stormtroopers drilling" already. I think they were probably just fleshing out the details. That's certainly not uncommon. I wouldn't read into it to much.
