    That type of stunt work is accomplished by the use of either an "air ram" or "air ratchet." Both propel a stunt man into the air with pneumatic cylinders. I'm thinking the stunt in the trailer was by an "air ratchet" while the leaked footage was an "air ram."

    Do you think the Stormtrooper in the trailer who goes flying is attached to any harness then while using one of these things? It doesn't look like CGI

    i hope that there is a lot of other great stunts like this one. well done!
    im glad the leak was from a sequence from the trailer, and if that is a fake leak i hope they show us videos that show us the least info as possible.

    You are looking at raw footage... CGI all happens in post production... there is no CGI on a stage

    The stunt in the trailer won't look like cgi at all, because the only cgi employed would be digitally removing the wires from the harness. But I'm making the assumption there is a stuntman in that stormtrooper suit. If that's just a dummy, then all they would need to do is use an air ram.

    Honestly, after watching the trailer a few more times you could make a case for either scenario. That stormtrooper is already up in the air when they cut to that shot and we don't see him land either.

    The stormtrooper in the trailer, not the raw footage. I know any harnesses will be removed digitally.

    ALL of that shot could have been done with CGI but it shows JJ and the crew's dedication to practical effects that they built an entire set and used actual storm troopers flying through the air. You could easily do that on a computer but it looks better this way

    I doubt there will be any CGI stormtroopers in this movie.. unless its to like bulk out a scene with thousands of troopers.. but even then the foreground ones will be real.

    I'm no expert in stunt work but having a stormtrooper go flying after an explosion is a pretty basic stunt. They have been doing people getting blown up by explosions for decades before CGI even existed.

    This video would have been so much better if they would have eliminated the music and inserted a Wilhelm scream for each and every "practice" explosion... anybody tech savvy enough to do it and post it?

    more than likely a composite shot where they shot groups of real troopers the layer them in the scene.

    When you see a couple of thousand troopers, most will be CGI except close up shots. 20 or 30 troopers in a shot will be all real. I wonder though if you have a lot of troopers in a shot, will the quality of costumes be good for all of them? Like in the original series of planet of the apes, as the movies went on, they just basically used ape masks for large scale ape scenes.
