I was mostly meh during the episode - I've never been crazy myself about the voodoo aspects of the Force, but I see where they could fit in well in the universe. The comparison made to the Empire wiping out the Nightsisters (ugh!) is very intriguing. I don't have to like it to allow the writers to include it.

However, I loved it from the point that they came out of hyperspace and were caught between the Maelstrom and the Empire. The visuals - and especially the music - were awesome! I wasn't crazy about the stick-electro-navigation, but whatever - the idea that it may use a crystal for another purpose than a lightsaber is a good one, though.

The biggest thing I've learned over the years as a Star Wars fan is that other people may still really enjoy things in Star Wars that I do not. For whatever reason, my daughters really enjoyed this episode, and they've not even been particular fans of Zeb before. So just because I don't like things, there is enough to go around.

Actually, they only established that Zeb thought he was the last of his race, the rest is just what we *thought* the writers' intentions were. I agree that it was an odd choice for his reunion to be off screen, but as jayardia said, I think this was just setup for a later showing of what the Lasat living on Lirasan are really are all about (which I'm going to guess is quite different than the Lasat that had migrated to Lasan).

So I guess Hondo doesn't know how to open a savings account.

I enjoyed this episode for the most part. We got a good bit of character development with Zeb in this episode, even if it was a little cliché. Hondo was fun as usual and the two Lasats were strange and unique in a good way. That last sequence was great, between the visuals of that collapsed star cluster and the violin in the music really gave the scene a mystical vibe to it. I was really disappointed we didn't get to see the planet at the end though. The Wild Space and Ashla EU references were also pretty interesting too. Overall, it did little to really move the season's major narrative along but it was a good setup/filler episode that provided more backstory to Zeb's character.

Is it possible that the Ghost crew has entered the "outside of the galaxy"? I don't really know how to verbalize it, but in the new novels/comics it is hinted that Palpatine (I believe) is trying to reach a certain point beyond the galaxy. Have the rebels entered that space? Or is this just "uncharted" territory?

IF this is the "external galaxy/places beyond" Palpatine is after, then we just witnessed the expansion of the Star Wars universe. Let that sink in.

    Just brainstorming.

I mainly saw it as a huge potential "SHTF" scenario, bug out destination/safety-net for the crew of 'The Ghost'.

Sort of a "writer's shortcut" to a particular character's preservation.

I loved this episode, glad Zeb got a moment to call his own, I can't believe he was a captain of the honor guard, what a elevation in status in this season 2, that was a cool scene Zeb using his bo-rifle to protect the ghost, I knew he would stay with the crew as they are his second family & it gives the hope he finds more of his kind.

For me the second half of this season has been pretty bad so far, the only thing i liked in this episode was Hando.

It was just the opposite for me. I thought this was a great way to have Zeb grow up and develop his character as something more than an overgrown teenager who bashes heads. The show needed this...assuming they follow through with it.

    Could Thrawn be coming soon?

    From legends:

"While Palpatine was still recovering in his Deep Core stronghold, his former advisors received word (8 ABY) of the arrival, from deep in the Unknown Regions, of the last surviving Grand Admiral. This was the Chiss strategic mastermind Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was armed with a plan he outlined to them that would defeat the New Republic. Heartened by the possibility of wresting back their power from the Rebels, they managed to set aside their differences and grant him overall command of their forces, with an eye toward making him their figurehead emperor once they had a throne back to give him." - http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Palpatine

I don't see that as opposite - I completely agree that they need to imbue Zeb with greater depth of character - he has been the show's least developed crew member so far. But that's part of the reason I didn't like how they chose to deliver this story. Up to this point, all of Zeb's very limited development has been tied to his underlying isolation. It's like the creators decided that wasn't working, and just wanted to close that plot thread even though they didn't have any idea how to go about it.

It cost Zeb nothing. He had nothing to do with searching for the other Lasat. He didn't want to help them after they were rescued. Honda was far more instrumental in both regards. Even when Zeb helped them through the anomaly, he just held the staff and just sort of let it happen. Whatever growth there was for him, would had to have come from visiting the planet, and again, we didn't get to see that.

Compare that to the two episodes this season that have focused on Sabine - where her character really has been developed. Rebels is capable of much more than we got from Legends of the Lasat.

Would have been nice to have Thrawn but how do you put him in the timeline now that we have TFA. It would be yet another person that would presumably have to die or conveniently disappear from the time of New Hope to past Return of the Jedi. It would have been fun if the had put him in TFA instead of Hux.

I don't know how the timeline would work, but it leaves it open for his appearance. He wouldn't HAVE to be used during Rebels, but this episode could be a set up for his appearance later.
IF it was actually the expansion to the unknown regions that we witnessed, then it possibly canonizes part of the Thrawn story point.

Didn't the episode say they were in Wild space?

Thrawn stays in the outer Rim. In the old EU he was active during the clone wars, but only came to the inner Rim after ROTJ.

I loved this episode! At first I wasn't too excited for it, with Zeb being by least favorite character of the Crew (not that I didn't like him - he just felt far more stagnant and one-note compared to everyone else). But in the end he got some great character development and I can't wait to see where he goes from here. The episode itself was perfectly paced, feeling far more cinematic towards the end than pretty much every other episode this season, and we got to see another way the Force shows itself to the world. We got to see a lot of cool stuff this episode and now the bar for the show is set even higher than it was before!

    And Hondo. Hondo was amazing.

This episode will be completed with the episode "The Honorable Ones", that will focus on Zeb and Kallus stranded on a planet. By the look of things, the child will save the warrior.

Wasn't there a base inside a Maw of black holes in the EU? Seems like I remember that was where Tarkin had his scientists develop the Death Star and Luke sent a bunch of Jedi students to be hidden inside the Maw. Anyone else remember this?

That was what came to mind when I watched this episode. Did we just find the secret rebel base Leia was protecting the location of? Is there where the Rogue One departs from?

Yeah. In the EU it was at the very center of the galaxy, which was riddled with black holes.
