is one of the worst moments in the entire series and arguably the worst in the original trilogy. It's absolutely ridiculous. There's nothing whatsoever about it that is believable . It's especially offensive since it's in such a good movie/

It's not the best looking effect and maybe not well explained but I don't find it too ridiculous. The novelization explains it though, the exhaust pipes are there to suck any loose debris out of the reactor shaft and vacuums Luke up then spits him outside like the garbage it thinks he is.

I think it works fine. I always thought it was somewhat ambiguous - I’m not sure if Luke even knew about the pipe system or thought he could survive it. Unless there is some book I’m unaware of that proves otherwise, it is possible this was a suicide attempt, and Luke just got lucky.

Same here - in fact, Luke being totally unaware of the pipes only made what he did so heroic; he would have rather died than join the Dark Side, despite having just realised that the man he loathed the most was his father.
    I also read the novel.

I read the prequel, the original, and the sequel trilogy novels, also the prequel novels to TPM & Rogue One respectively, for the record. :D

    Btw, @madcatwoman17 welcome back...

Do you love... Star Wars? @kuatorises ;)

Luke would rather die than joining the dark side, so he jumps down without knowing he will make it or not. But he doesn't care, no, he's even smiling because Vader now knows he will never be able to turn his son and rule with him together.

I also like that it's not really explained how he could survive, at least in the movie itself. In the end it's more of a "have faith in the force" moment. The force has plans for Luke. So, the force will save him.

This moment is supensful, exciting, philosophical and magical. A true Star Wars moment.
