  2. Luke is a Jedi Master, with wicked saber and force skills, on a galactic stakeout for hidden Sith

    69.6%
  3. Luke is actually visably a part of TFA a lot, dark side or not, dispite the trailers

    Cannon evidence?
-Luke totally bottles up the fact of his uncle and aunts gruesome deaths LOL
-The scene where Luke fights Vader on Dagoba, and Luke ends up being behind Vader's mask (I could see abrams and company getting ideas from this)
-The scenes where Luke uses anger when fighting...
-the book Heir to the Jedi: has some narration of Lukes thoughts and feelings when he used the dark side, and my opinion, he liked how powerful he was...

BUT THEN THERE IS THIS....SCENE IN TFA:

-Where, who I believe is Luke, the robot hand touches R2D2: THAT says it all... it has led me to think that Luke hasn't joined the dark side at all because of this scene. .

A dark side user wouldn't have that emotion or thought to lay a hand on a droid in that way. Luke, if he was a dark side user, wouldn't go near that droid unless it was to destroy it. Luke + R2 = light side...

unless of-course, immediately after, he switches on his lightsaber with the other hand and watches it go through the droids head...all while patting him...CRAP...LUKE HAS JOINED THE DARK SIDE

haha geuss we will see! either way I hope that whoever uses the dark side of the force uses it like a bad-ass

It would blow my mind if Luke was captured by Knights of Ren for the First Order...then they used his DNA to breed a new army...thus making all new first order stormtroopers force sensitive, explaining why Finn is force sensitive and why these first order stormtroopers are a tougher group.

You know, this whole time I've been saying that I wouldn't care what happens in the movie I'd just roll with it. But I never thought about Luke destroying R2- never once crossed my mind. That is I guess one thing that would cause me to walk out of the theater and never go back. Also JJ better start running. His assistant better have the smarts to tell him "Listen, and understand! TARS is out there! He can't be bargained with. He can't be reasoned with he doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."

It defeats the purpose of Luke saying....... in ROTJ

"I am a JEDI, like my father before me!"

It would totally make that useless.

it comes down to the simple fact that it has to be a good movie.
a fan's fantasy is one thing.
a good movie, sometimes, is something completely different.

we have new heroes. characters young enough to fight the new dangers that threaten the galaxy.
our OG hero Luke is now 62 years old.
and with that age comes the complexities that life naturally brings.
Luke might be in hiding. He might be disgraced and ashamed for letting his nephew fall to the dark side.

and i think this story line held the most potential for the trilogy.

That is, our new heroes (Rey and Finn) hear about who Luke USED TO BE. As almost a myth, a legend.
But when she sees him at the end of the movie, she sees WHO HE IS NOW - a shattered old man.

and, maybe she inspires him to try ONE MORE TIME to pass on his knowledge.
he is the last Jedi. the ways of the force should not die with him, or be left only to those who choose evil.
so episode 8 could show Luke as the reluctant mentor.

STAR WARS IS ABOUT SECOND CHANCES.
    all the clues are there.
Finn's second chance. Anakin's second chance.

This will be Luke's second chance.
Will we see Kylo's second chance before the saga is complete???

I'm trying to think of a good reason Luke would isolate himself...if in fact he did train Kylo and the Knights of Ren wiped out his padowans.

Luke is the hero of the OT, also the last Jedi. Why would he go into hiding instead of being the hero and facing the dark side or at least work on getting Kylo back to the good side?

First thought could be that Luke has no idea who Kylo or the Knights of Ren are...has no idea about the first order and what is happening.

or maybe he did train Kylo, along with his own daughter. But then a teenage Kylo went rogue with some of the other padowans, created the knights of ren, killed all the other padowans...or so everyone thought. Luke thought his daughter was killed...but she was taken and hid as a young child on another planet.

That second option would be pretty impactful when Rey does climb the stairs and hands the lightsaber over to her father Luke. (if this does happen)

Unless you put the emphasis on the other clause, as highlighted above: "Like my father before me," who was an incorrigible bastard. ;)

Don't forget the part where he keeps a blaster next to his chair and every morning has to fight the urge to put it to his head and pull the trigger. Why even have Hamill lose any weight for the role in the first place? If anything they should've had him gain even more weight, and handed him a bottle of whiskey. Plus he's got cancer woohoo welcome back to the Star Wars universe everyone.

Maybe JJ was like "Oh you want it dark, huh? You want to see the dark side? [kylo jj]I will show them the dark side[/kylo jj]." That's the only way I can see any of this depressing stuff happening in this trilogy.

Looking at the Phantom Menace trailer, there is one shot of Anakin and he's a big part of the movie.

Maybe Luke and R2 are romantically involved in TFA.

Those reasons flew through my mind aswell, but I think you are forgetting something.
Luke is a hero, he helped the Rebellion in so many ways - blew up the Death Star on his first day of the job! Yes, he has gone through so much, but this is what makes a hero more determined for their goal. This is exactly what makes a greater Jedi. Also, turning Luke would be a total disappointment, and make all the things he has done in the OT seem useless and worthless. Especially the "I am a Jedi, like my father before me" line. It's almost like sacrificing himself and then coming back alive.

The idea Luke has turned dark is utter bollocks. His greatest test was in ROTJ and he passed it. I cannot imagine anything in the preceding years that would make him succumb to the dark side.

Well, Anakin Skywalker was a jedi and a hero. Anakin is his father, not Darth Vader. So it's still true...from a certain point of view. :D
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 5, 2015, Original Post Date: Dec 5, 2015 ---
Who isn't "whiney" as a teenager a bit? Luke was fine, and still very likable. He matured as the movies went on.
