Probably the finest writing in all of live action SW, IMO. These writers, for this series....just....wow....

    Just incredible.

    "what have you sacrificed?"

    Luthen:

".....Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love. I've given up all chance at inner peace. I've made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion, I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? Everything! You'll stay with me, Lonni. I need all the heroes I can get."

Totally agree. It's safe to say Luthen has four or five of the top five scenes in the series so far. Cassian and Kino at the beginning of ep.10 might be in there, but Luthen and Lonni, Luthen and Mon after Aldhani, Luthen and Saw both times... Incredible writing and the delivery by Stellan is just beautiful. After the finale I plan on seeking out more of his work and enjoying.

Never thought that anything could approach Luthen's monologue.....but here we are. ANDOR just amazing amazing amazingly brilliant.

"My name is Maarva Carassi Andor. I'm honored to stand before you. I'm honored to be a Daughter of Ferrix and honored to be worthy of the stone. Strange... I feel as if I can see it. I was six, I think, first time I touched a funerary stone. Heard our music, felt our history, holding my sister's hand as we walked all the way from Fountain Square. Where you stand now, I've been more times than I can remember. I always wanted to be lifted. I was always eager, always waiting to be inspired. I remember every time it happened, every time the dead lifted me... with their truth. And now I'm dead. And I yearn to lift you. Not because I want to shine or even be remembered. It's because I want you to go on. I want Ferrix to continue. In my waning hours, that's what comforts me most.

But I fear for you. We've been sleeping. I've been sleeping. We've had each other, and Ferrix, our work, our days. We had each other, and they left us alone. We kept the trade lanes open, and they left us alone. We took their money, and ignored them, we kept their engines churning, and the moment they pulled away, we forgot them. Because we had each other. We had Ferrix. But we were sleeping. I've been sleeping. And I've been turning away from the truth I wanted not to face.

There is a wound that won't heal at the center of the galaxy. There is a darkness reaching like rust into everything around us. We let it grow, and now it's here. It's here, and it's not visiting anymore. It wants to stay. The Empire is a disease that thrives in darkness, it is never more alive than when we sleep. It's easy for the dead to tell you to fight, and maybe it's true, maybe fighting is useless. Perhaps it's too late. But I'll tell you this... If I could do it again, I would wake up early and be fighting these bastards...from the start! Fight the Empire! "

I don't know if it just the "high" from the finale hasn't worn off yet, but this could very well be the best and the most important single speech in the entire franchise.

    Any challengers?

This first season had it share of stand-out monologues. That's a combination of great writing and great performances. Forrest Whitaker, Stellan Skarsgard. and now the finale's funeral speech by Fiona Shaw. All three had Emmy Award-worthy performances.

Look, I don't see how Andor is not heavily considered come awards season. Tony Gilroy and his writers, directors, VFX, editors, Britell! The actors, really top-notch from top to bottom. This can only bode well for the future of Star Wars.

i know this series has given me a to-watch list. Even the actor who played Nemik, I went and binged The End of the F***ing World. I definitely want to check out some Stellan Skarsgård, and I think I'm a Tony Gilroy fan for life now, and I've never really watched his stuff before now.

The series might be highly regarded for the Saturn Awards and/or Hugo Awards next year. I thought there were too many monologues in this series. It almost seemed as if Tony Gilroy was beating the audience over the head with monologues and speeches about freedom v. tyranny, etc. He almost allowed the message to overwhelm the story. And that's not always a good thing in fiction.
