I'm pretty sure the opening crawl was meant to be sarcastic playing on the fact that he's Han's "sidekick". (Even though it does take 2 pilots to properly fly the Falcon)
This is actually why I liked the crawl the so much, but I understand it's not for everyone.

Now if only the story was more interesting.

As an afterthought, I liked how they didn't translate Chewy's dialogue. If they can portray his emotions just through RAAHAHARR and GRRRRRRR the whole series, that'll be impressive.

If you think that it's sarcasm then it makes much more sense to me. Apparently I can't read sarcasm but I can when someone speaks it. I was just reading it as fact since these are canon books and thought the writers screwed up again. Like in LotS.

I picked it up while reading it, but I'll agree, printed sarcasm isn't nearly as easy to detect, as is evidenced by reading the posts on these forums sometimes ;).

3 or so pages of the kid getting confused about Chewie getting angry about slavery, begging for his help and such - that was weird/bad storytelling. I seem to remember the authors saying at SDCC that they would be really true to character with Chewie's communication, but that was just really off-putting to me. I thought the image in the flower bed was funny, but not very Star Wars.

Actually, that's a comment you can give this who issue - not Star Wars-ish. I have a standing order on it though at the local shop, so will reserve thorough criticism until we learn more story. But for the first issue of this novel, I agree with the OP - this was not good.

Ooh. I haven't read Lords of the Sith yet. What did the author screw up? (Unless it's a spoiler, because I still plan on reading it.)

I have just read the comic. The story so far is rather generic. While the issue was not terrible, there was nothing special. I have always liked Chewbacca, but I do not care for the girl. I have already forgotten her name. It is too early to give up on the series yet, and I hope the remaining issues will be more interesting.

I knew going in that this was going to be a side story with no real bearing on anything and is just there to tell a small story. I liked it. I'm interested to see what happens in the next issue. Is it on par with Shattered Empire or the Star Wars comics? No but it's not supposed to be. It's only 4 issues long and maybe it gets even better as we get to the next issue. But I liked it.
