I kept thinking this too, that it was before the new Star Wars Comics, where he seems more tied to Luke and Leia. Here, he is still a little wishy washy in a "Oh, I am not sticking around" and after it was more just one foot out the door, with most of the rest of him in.

i'm not saying i don't still love her and admire her.

i'm saying i'm disturbed by her behavior ~ in the same way i'm disturbed by Ben's behavior. well, okay, his literal behavior is way more more disturbing, but i think they're doing the same sort of thing: throwing themselves heart and soul into something with blinders on. and it makes them dispassionate about the details in favor of the big picture.

maybe you see her as balanced, but i think she's got a lot of hurt that she's not worked through and now on top of that she's got a dead husband and her kid is a worse disaster than ever. i feel like she needs a time-out, a vacation, and a good therapist ~ hahahaha

i get it, she's holding it together, but it makes me sad for her.
i never felt that way about her during the OT even though she suffered a lot.
    now it's just overwhelming.

He seems to know what is up with her, or likes the attention even if bad. They always make it seem like she wants to at first, but catches herself feeling something and takes it out on him. :(

In her defense...her hands were dirty and she happened to like nice men. Ok, that is in no way relevant nor does it give her a defense, but even so, this is the best romantic scene in Star Wars. I thought the scene in this issue was a good building block to this particular scene in the film. It compliments Han's frustrations at Echo Base earlier in the film as well and highlights how closed off Leia has allowed herself to be. I think Han was actually going for it here and Leia just freaked out and punched him. I stand by my initial take that this was used as a ruse to throw off any would be spies, but that's just what she spun it into. Han went for it; she reacted. He could have just started yelling something and had an argument, but he went straight for what he wanted and what he knew she needed - a good kiss. I liked the scene and Leia's reaction was very - well - "Leia". Han's no doubt been slapped by multiple women in his life, but it's the rare one that will punch you right in the jaw while the look in her eyes says, "Get lost, but don't stop trying". Han just couldn't resist.

    Best explanation ever!!!

I just mentioned that - and my faulty WiFi has to be the one to blame lol, since I pretended to make a longer post - because we were arguing that the new canon includes more scenes like this one, but they had this kind of interaction since the OT. I agree with you - just bantering, business as usual, would not seem something different at the eyes of the mole in the Rebellion, so that attempt to kiss her and then her punching him was a perfect cover-up of his mission.

I didn't like this new guy Cracken, I thought so when they mentioned the mole, but we shall see.

My perspective might be a little bit different than yours since I haven't known Leia as long as you all - just a year ago, I was not into SW, let's face it - but in some way I can understand Leia a lot since I've been told we have a similar personality (I wish I had the dashing Corellian scoundrel too LOL!)

I thought her development after ROTJ was sort of sad and tragic but at the same time, it gives us a great foundation for the ST in the way she has not acknowledge the demons of her past - being Darth Vader's daughter - and even worse, as you mention, she didn't witness his so-called redemption first-hand, so I can understand the way the Story Group is developing her character at this point. She might overreact punching Han - but it is as @Hard Case said, it was all staged. Perhaps at our eyes we might think it is too much, that she doesn't need to be punching people and being violent to show her strength, but in some way it is understandable. So far, at that post-Yavin point, she has a lot of weight on her shoulders - her duty to the Rebellion, the aftermath of Alderaan's destruction, etc - and sometimes we seem to forget she is still young - 19-20 years old. If we add into the mix a growing attraction to a lesser guy - let's face it, on a galaxy far, far away there are also social class divisions - and Han is a smuggler, a good one, with a heart of gold, but just a common smuggler. We can see how even the Twi'leks racers show their contempt towards him.

I am not saying Leia is regarding Han the same way - like looking down to him - but she might think he is not going to stay and also her duty to the Rebel Alliance to defeat the Empire is greater than anything.

And Leia being more like Anakin is quite true, I even wrote a post recently comparing their parallel issues published some weeks ago - Star Wars # 19 and Obi-Wan & Anakin # 5):

    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....rison-obi-wan-anakin-5-and-star-wars-19.9585/

Maybe she looks more like Padme and she follows her political path but, her tendency to react getting angry to her fear is too Anakin-like.

It does seem to be a bit of a "Show".

    @Kyle great review!

I 100% agree with all of this. I actually put off reading this issue until a few minutes ago because I was afraid this series wouldn't be any good. But from the artwork, to the writing, to the story (the race looks to be epic and exciting, even if it is off to a horrible start), I just can't wait for the next issue! My only concern is how they'll end the series. I loved Obi-Wan and Anakin as well as Lando, but I felt both had a slightly rushed ending and the comic suffered slightly due to that (not enough to ruin the comic in any way, shape, or form, but I feel like they needed a few more pages to wrap everything up in a nicer manner). But that's a long way off, and let's just sit back and enjoy the ride. As I said earlier, great review and I can't wait for the next issue!

@Kyle, great review! I gotta say, Han doesn't feel off, considering his qualms and all, but it's great development for the character. He goes from smuggler to commander within the space of two films, and he still works hard for the rebellion in the books and comics, almost as if he never had any pull or reason to really leave the alliance, other than Jabba's debt. The OT really lacked color, and the PT had too much at times, so I'm liking the balance struck in the comics, like Obi-Wan and Anakin actually being a bit muted, yet Han Solo having a wonderfully colored room with all the pilots. I'm looking forward to seeing more racing, something that Han fully gets into again in Bloodlines and post ROTJ

Glad you asked. We will be reviewing the TFA adaptation, but we are going to wait until the entire series is released. I thought the first issue was great, but with all the Rogue One news this past week we decided to hold off on posting a review for TFA so those articles could take precedent.
