    Hello my comic book comrades!

This week brings us an interesting, to say the least, addition to the Lando series. It looks like this series is going to have bigger implications than Lando entering a Gambler's Anonymous program or Lobot's actually speaking. Sith artifacts, you ask? A look under the hood of those Crimson Imperial Guards? Why yes and yes! Let's get started.

    Screenshot_3.jpg

The opening picks up a little bit after we saw Lobot pierced by a surprise Imperial Guard's staff. The cyborg assistant to Lando is facing a crisis of his body being in death and the mechanical implant taking over. Luckily, Sheev kept a Bacta-tank on hand in his little ship, so Lando and his little warthog-esque colleague are able to dump Lobot in there to keep him stable.

    Screenshot_1.jpg

So what's going on with the Imperial Guards? Well, the androgynous twins Lando hired are dealing with them. The closer look we get at them reminds me of one of my favorite Marvel characters, Black Panther. I won't spoil who wins the fight, but some red hoods come off and we do get a look at the faces behind the masks.

    Screenshot_4.jpg

Lando and his warthog friend spend a few frames discussing the backstory of the Imperial Guards. As I am apt to frequently point out, this is the new canon, and I believe it is the first time in the canon the origins of these guards are pointed out. Not shockingly, they are often plucked from the elite Imperial troops, and Sheev does not discriminate in gender, as Lando points out he was "familiar" with a female guard.

    Screenshot_5.jpg

What were they protecting? A Sith artifact. Despite the implications of this, as the warthog fellow points out Emperor Palpatine is going to be desperate to get this ship and artifact back; Lando is only interested in the monetary value of said artifact. From what I can tell, it's a helmet or part of some armor. Please sound off if you below or in the comments if you know exactly what this is and/or who it belongs to. Regardless who it is, it looks like it may be speaking up for itself by the next issue.

This series is a lot of fun. I'm loving it. If you have been following along so far there is no reason to stop now. If you are holding off I urge you to dive right in as this series gets better with each issue. The writing and artwork are keeping things at a consistent pace. Get out there and get it!

Great review, @Kyle. I really enjoyed this issue as well. And to echo your statement about Black Panther...that was my thought as well. This series just keeps getting better. I feel like Chanath Cha is indeed going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future. And the Imperial Guards? How cool was that? I'm curious about the zombiefied appearance of the man under the mask. How long were those guards holed up in that room? Was it long enough to be corrupted physically by the dark side presence within? Has Palpatine used the dark side to alter these soldiers in some way which had physical side effects? Are they deathtroopers (LOL)? So many questions... Can't wait for #4!

First, how impressive was that art? And add another vote for Black Panther lookalikes!

It is not just the mask, the entire chamber was filled with Sith artifacts. This is basically Palpatine's batcave, to continue with superhero metaphors. :D I don't know the old EU, I would be interesting to see if anyone recognizes the mask. Did it belong to a specific Sith?

It is interesting that we don't see Chanat Cha's face. Could he be a she or an alien? Cha is certainly ruthless enough for Palpatine's taste. We will surely see an explosive ending in the last two issues.

And, it could be that Lando is partially right. Maybe, they are not set for life, but at least set on Bespin. :p And, it could be that I am right and that Lobot might stop speaking as a consequence of his injury.

So far, the mini series is a win. Looking forward to the next issue.

@Kyle, nice review, hope the pics come up soon as well, the story is amazing because it has great art to support it. I feel like Chanat Cha is someone that isn't just a miniseries throw-in. I keep on getting this Cad Bane vibe from the character. Maybe as Boba overtook him, "Chanat Cha" was a way to stay one step ahead and be different enough to compete with Boba. Who really knows :p I do believe the stabbing of Lobot will cause him to lose his ability to speak,, it both makes sense and its sad to see. And I hop we get to see a Bespin tie-in really soon :)

As for the mask, I get the feeling it's Darth Bane's. Looks a bit like the one from TCW.

Thank you!!! Gotta be it or a distant relative! Bring on Darth Bane, I say!

So many questions indeed! I'm withholding my cynical views of Chanath Cha at the moment, but I'm optimistic the character will shape up nicely.

Lady! I think you hit the nail on the Lobot! Either he looses his voice or the cybernetic components take hold of his mind and it becomes more effective for Lando to communicate via that Apple Watch he wears in Cloud City. Nice catch!

I am wondering if they are going to jump around the timeline in Lando's life. I think a series pre-ROTJ would be appropriate. Lando dealing with his guilt about Han's frozen prison, infiltrating Jabba's crime organization and some explanation of why Lobot wasn't sitting next to him on the Millennium Falcon at the Battle of Endor.

I'm really warming up to this series. This issue had everything. Nothing to really add that you fine folks haven't already stated.
I think the safe bet is that that was Plagueis's mask. There's been no canon visual of him so far, right?

It wouldn't be a huge reveal from an overall continuity standpoint, but Cha could be that female imperial guard lando referred to.

It would fit with Palpatines trust in her as well as her high level of skill.

Put another notch on the "Black Panther Twins" belt. I'm really enjoying the Lando series a lot right now too. I'm part of me is hoping they continue it past the five(?) original issues they had planned because then we could see more Lando and more heists and escapes! But then if it's not planned out well, it might not work. Maybe a Lando II series? Either way, great comic and great review!

Anyone know if the species of the twins have been confirmed?
I haven't liked Lando very much before this issue, but this was great. It's proably after this point when Lobot can't talk and seeing him, well fade away and as seen in ESB just thinking with his implants, was amazing. Then I've started to like Cha a bit more. He feels like the perfect bounty hunter now, but at some point in the series he will do. I still don't think it will be crashing into a neutron star (right?).
Great ending with the mask being actived? I agree that it kind of looks like Bane's mask, but not quite the same. Although it's not a acolyte mask so I really have know idea.
There's so many people your wondering where they'll end up and I thinks that's great. Because in the Star Wars series we know that none of the characters on screen in the OT can die. As well it's fun to bring in mew characters and see new folks!

The character's frame feels masculine to me, but we went back and forth on Phasma's gender until it was verified as female when Christie was confirmed for the role - but that was looking at a real-life person on screen which gave off subtle nuances in posture and so forth that had me believing she was Phasma from the get go. It's harder to tell with comic art, but I just don't get that feminine vibe at all with the character, considering other armored females we have seen before from Sabine's light armor to Bo-Katan's heavier get-up, both of which still had that feminine quality. Could be wrong though, as a more masculine look could be intentional to add to the reveal. I do think your "former guard that Lando 'knew' theory" is interesting. :)

The only other type of mask I can think of that this mask comes close to resembling is a Mandorian mask from the Old Republic / Mandolorian War era of Legends. The mask is obviously a sith relic though given the context of the comic, and I think that the Bane mask from CW is the best guess we could possibly make, although as alike as they are, there are still some big differences. It is obviously not the same mask, although it could be another worn by Bane, or more likely belonged to another Sith Lord. It may even be a droid of some kind. (The severed head of Plagueis anyone? Lol)

It could be a droid now that I think about it and I revisit it. But if it was an old Sith Droid, then how would it explain why the guards were so tainted and weakened by something? I still think it has to be some Dark Lord's mask, if not Bane's.

No one has really mentioned this yet...I love how the table with the helmet is a raised Imperial symbol. I thought that looked cool.

I just realized that that's Maul's ship they gave to Chanath Cha. Ancient controls and what not.

There's no way this story is random. Sith artifacts? Undead Imperial guards? A guy who studied Jedi and Sith history at a university? What the heck is going on behind the scenes with the story group? There's gotta be something mind blowing on the horizon for TFA.

I think they're adding more details to the OT more than anything, but for sure, some stuff they draw might have effects in the ST!

I like the way you think. I'm cautious about calling out ripple effects that tie into TFA. It's confirmed there are no Sith in TFA, but Sith artifacts are going to play a role. It wouldn't be crazy to assume a cache like this would not turn up.
