    Hello everyone! We are doing things a little different this week. The review will surely be up but most likely not until Thursday afternoon (Pacific Standard Time). Because this is a pretty big deal the staff and I decided to do things a little different this week. Don't panic, just read the book and enjoy. Thank you to everyone who participates in these weekly discussions on the books. I look forward to them every week and feel lucky to have you all here to discuss the printed Star Wars universe.

    This thread is open to you, my friends. I will chime in, but expect a full review to go up on Thursday. I hope you all have enjoyed the onslaught of Star Wars literature that has flooded the pages this week.

    I have just finished the issue. I can easily say that this was the best art I've seen from all the new Star Wars comics. It's absolutely outstanding. The story is also interesting. We get to see the parents of one of the main TFA protagonists:

    So it appears that Poe Dameron's parents will be the main focus in the story. We get to see his mother - an A-Wing pilot named Shara, and his father - a member of Han Solo's strike team "specforces pathfinders", named Sergeant Dameron. Actually I am pretty sure that author Greg Rucka showed us the very moment when Poe Dameron was conceived. :)
    Poe's mother is really beautiful. She is the character we've seen on the second issue cover. And I can't escape the feeling that very soon Poe's dad will die. Just my own speculation.

    So, Shattered Empire was released and
    Poe Dameron's parents fight alongside Han. Mom's an A-Wing pilot.

    It's Greg Rucka and he's awesome. So It's no surprise that this is good. Also Checchetto is one of the best artists around.

    That was some amazing art. I loved the story, but it was a quick read. Part of me wishes they made this an oversize issue.
    Also I heard somewhere that this was being released bi-monthly, is that correct? Or just once a month standard schedule?

    My theory that Shara is Rey's mother may have just gone out the window, unless...

    (Hiding this speculation as a spoiler in case we are considering the Dameron thing a separate spoiler - which is actually silly since this is a spoiler tagged post about the comic...) What if Kes bites the dust after Poe is conceived and Shara and Luke fall in love? So Poe and Rey would be half siblings.

    Kes has a very Kanan look to him. If it weren't for the eye color and, apparently, age difference, I would throw out a crazy theory that Kanan might rename himself Kes. But I think Kanan is toast before ep4 anyway.

    Man, the art was beautiful. I could've done with less comm chatter dialogue, but still a good read. Definitely got the vibe that Kes or Shara won't be around for long.

    Man, the artwork! I love Star Wars, Lando and Vader, but this was both very detailed and still quite stylized. It managed to make everyone look like their movie counterparts so well! As for our two main heroes in the first issue, I wouldn't say either is at risk, but I would say for sure Shattered Empire might actually be a setting stone for TFA, and an action packed one at it. I ca't wait for a bigger story that's hinted by the other issues covers and this comic.

    This was sooooo good. I really hope they do more with this period of SW time. I can't imagine any fan not enjoying at least most of this book. I really hope they let Marvel and the Story Group come up with more arcs to add to this series.
