@Viral Hide The whole conception thing was the very first thing I thought when I saw those frames lol. Kind of odd if that's what it's meant as.

I couldn't help but wonder the same thing when the character's spent the night together, if that is the case, it would mean that Poe has a few years on the other protagonists in TFA, which if the rumor about him being a squad leader is true, would make sense(also making him even more the Han to Finn and Rey's Luke and Leia).

I knew this issue was going to be great as soon as I saw that Rucka and Checchetto were working together again, they are respectively two of my favorite people working in comics and whenever they work together it is always gold. However, I would say that Checchetto has outdone even his past stellar work, you can feel his passion for Star Wars in the art of this issue. I can't wait to read the next issue in the series.

I can’t agree with you all more, the artwork was amazing, the first few pages of the Battle of Endor were breath-taking. I did a review of it on my channel, check it out! (**SPOILERS**)

So they delayed #2 now also? Was supposed to come out yesterday and with issue #1 delayed they moved it to next week. And now this. Tired of the delays. (emperor) Here you go Marvel, get it together. (emperor)

Great review and awesome 1st issue.

Also, when you speculated about Poe and Leia it made me remember a rumor I read a couple of months back about this. I posted it in a thread but it didn't catch on or it just sounded ludicrous to the people that did read it. It kinda insinuates partly what you think. Here it is. http://makingstarwars.net/2015/07/on-star-wars-the-force-awakens-general-organa-and-poe/

It was a decent read overall. I felt some of the panels reiterating the Yavin battle weren't necessary, like Luke vs. Vader. We already know what happened. All we get from this issue is that "it's not over." I understand there was a need to develop the new cast but geez, don't take up the whole book for that. Move the plot along!!! I guess I can't complain too much, we did get an action in the beginning and the artwork is solid!

I'm wondering though if MARVEL will allow the artists a more stylized approach to SW artwork or are we to expect photo realism from every comic?? That would be unfortunate.

I think this will be a great series. Loved the art, Greg Rucka really got it right.

In the new canon this is an almost unexplored era and I sure want to know what`s going on in the canon. It was good that they added in that the empire will still continue because in ROTJ it feels so abrupt when the Empire is destroyed, everyone celebrates.... you know.
Of course there is some kind of aftermath. Like in the middle east after the revolution down there.

As you can see, all three of us were very effusive in our praise, and with good reason. I do want to point out one nitpick I had with the art, which had to be cut due to length. I don't want it to look like that all we did is praise the comic, no matter how much it deserved.

You can say this is a nitpick from a female point of view. In every frame, whether she is in cockpit of her A-wing or she just rolled out of bed, Sharra seems to wear a perfect makeup, like she just got off the runway. That is one thing I found less then realistic.

Is that a lip gloss, Sharra? XD But, as I said, it is a nitpick. She is lovely to look at and this is a comic, after all. :)

It's too bad we have to wait for a month for more.

I think we will get more from this period after TFA is released. They have to keep some secrets. But, you can already connect the pieces of Aftermath, Shattered Empire and Lone Stars in particular to broader picture, especially concerning general state of the galaxy. The details will come, I am sure.

I'm sure these new characters are coming back after the TFA is released.

What I would also like to see is good people fighting on the wrong side of war. The DH comic "The Empire" did it very well and I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunity to explore the new plots with the new evil regime.

This is a pretty common underlying weakness in Marvel's SW comics. Don't even get me started about how many issues of Marvel's Star Wars it took Luke to find out what was in the *@#$ box marked "For Luke" and judging by Lukes reaction in issue 8 he was pretty let down too :D

A Marvel Cover Girl Force Awakens Make-Up tie in is on the way no doubt!

The book was plenty enjoyable, don't get me wrong. I just wish MARVEL set a side a title or two that don't appeal do broad audience with realistic drawing. Comics are an art form and have so much more to offer. I'm currently reading the DH "Empire & Dark Times" series. Holy blast it has amazing art style!!!

Indeed, I have no doubt that we will see some other takes on the art eventually. Honestly though, as a comic book fan myself, I have already noticed a good degree of diversity between the artists on their series at this point. Marco Checchetto who is doing this comic has a very distinctive style, not to mention Alex Maleev on Lando.
Here's some pictures for reference as to the varying styles of these artists, using a character not affiliated with Star Wars for objectivity, that character being Daredevil since most of the artists have drawn him, plus he's my favorite Marvel character ;).

I will put a spoiler tag on the info in order to shorten the post length when one isn't viewing the art.

Artists on the main Star Wars title, John Cassaday, Simone Bianchi, Stuart Immonen(who has actually gotten better and more distinctive since drawing DD)

    On Darth Vader, Salvador Larroca

    On Lando, Alex Maleev

    On the Kanan, Pepe Larraz

    On Shattered Empire, Marco Checchetto

Lastly, on Leia we had Terry Dodson, I couldn't find a picture of him doing Daredevil, but here's an image from Leia #1(I don't really like his style, but it is certainly distinctive).

I would say that we actually have a pretty good range of diversity right now, however there is always room for more :).

It's interesting that you bring that up, which is another reason I'm glad we also got woman's POV for the review. As a man, this didn't bother me (for obvious reasons), as I have come to subconsciously expect women to be handled this way in comics. At least she wasn't half-naked through the majority of the comic like most other women in Marvel comics, but I definitely see your point. I think it's kind of a universal thing across all forms of media - but especially for comic books. That's one of the things that I enjoy about Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead series...I can picture myself among the characters in the story. They aren't larger than life. They've been through it and it shows on their person. So I agree that Shara is a little bit too much like a supermodel at the top of her game to have just been in a battle for ultimate realism here - but at the risk of sounding sexist - at least they erred on the attractive side. :)

I am really grateful for that. It is better that she is dolled up than having her breasts popping out of her pilot suit. Even in bed, they covered her up. I hope they remain classy. So far, all SW comics were pretty good on that point (I haven't yet read Leia, but I haven't heard any complaints).

Leia has some accented curves and is also dolled up in her series, but she remains covered and classy throughout. I liked her portrayal for the most part, and the series had some cool points, but the overall story was lame and inconsequential. Unless you collect all things canon like me, skip that one. :)

I do collect and I do have it, but because I have heard the same thing over and over, with very, very few people happy with her character, I am still holding off reading the series. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
