My Rey Theory

Good thoughts.
I agree that Rey is Luke's daughter (good pilot, good at fixing things, Luke's theme playing for her throughout the movie, Rey mentioning Luke's name after Maz says there is one that could come back, etc).
I think, though, that Luke dropped her off on Jakku to hide her from Ren after he and his knights killed the younglings, paragons and possibly his wife(?).

 

Mark Hamil delivered an impact scene. It's all I needed from Luke in this film, it made up for his limited time. I was on the edge of my seat excited. The watery eyes and expression.. Give Carrie and Mark some credit, they nailed their performance IMO. I expected to cringe tbh.

Anyone think it might be possible Rey is not related to Luke, but a descendant of Obi-Wan who trained with Luke before the academy was destroyed? I'm not sure how accents are obtained in the Star Wars world, but Rey and Obi Wan have the same accent and JJ said there's a reason why they told Daisy to keep her accent, but told Finn to lose his. Also, it has been confirmed that Alec Guiness' Obi Wan says 'Rey' during her trippy lightsaber dream

It really looks like Rey uses Palpatine's saber technique. I could be wrong. Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere.

 

Looks like Luke's in ROTJ to me.

This is pretty much my theory too. It would give an extra dimension to Kylo if it was him who hid her and explain why it takes most people a while to figure out who she is - I believe Leia has figured it out by the end - they think she is dead.

That's my main theory, but I do have one other side crazy theory - she is dead. Or at least she was killed, but the force brought her back to balance the force because of Kylo's descent to the dark side.

Have some new information about Rey sourced from newly released official books.

Rey is 19 years old in TFA (source: Star Wars TFA Visual Dictionary), and since she's been on Jakku since the age of 5, we can calculate Rey has lived on Jakku for 14 years. (This could also mean R2-D2 was also asleep for 14 years?)

Rey owns an X-Wing pilot helmet once owned by Captain Dosmit Raeh of the Tierfon Yellow Aces. Captain Raeh's name is clearly written on the side of the helmet in aurebesh. (source: Star Wars TFA Visual Dictionary). Rey is clearly a fan of this pilot, she has made a doll too, presumably of Raeh?. Could "Rey" actually be a false name influenced by Captain Raeh's helmet taken to hide her true identity?

As Rey is a scavenger who repairs and trades machine parts for ration portions, she has become very skilled in repairing technology. Rey lived inside an AT-AT walker. According to the Rey back-story in "Before The Awakening", she also salvaged computers and memory chips from crashed fighters and kept some for her home. Inside Rey's AT-AT, she has assembled a computer which she uses for education and entertainment. One of the computer programs is a flight simulator (used by fighter pilots for training) which explains how Rey is so at ease with flying the Millennium Falcon. Also mentioned in the book "Before The Awakening", Rey over a few months managed to rebuild and test-fly a small freighter to a flyable condition which she planned to sell for 10,000 portions. Sadly, it was stolen before she could sell it.

This could cause Snoke to use this against Rey for her to join the dark side. Telling her that Luke left her and killed her unknown parents. This would be a great plot and way to explain her getting tested. Just know that if she joins the dark side...I do not think she will listen to Luke and return. Also, watch Rey's vision, when she is a young girl and screams "Come Baaack!" You will here a ship leave, I bet it is Luke.

Kylo is the only one who would drop Rey off on Jakku. I also think that the "big reveal" ala ESB will not be that Rey is Luke's daughter, but that Kylo protected Rey from Snoke and dropped her off along with the falcon, and that Kylo desperately wants to be free from Snoke.
