This is a copy-paste of a post i made on Reddit that didn't get much response. I doubt very much that some of this will come to pass but I havn't heard any speculations close to this yet so why not have some fun thinking about the possibilities.

    *Possible TCW/FotJ/TFA Spoilers*

"OK, so stay with me here, I'm a little "in my cups" tonight as it were. I'm thinking that the new trilogy might take some inspiration from TCW and the Fate of the Jedi book series. Straight from Wookiepedia: "Lucas Licensing suggested to Troy Denning (author of FotJ: Apocalypse) that he use the Mortis backstory first seen in The Clone Wars third season as part of Abeloth's history". So we know there was a desire at Lucas to further explore this area of the lore.

We know from Ep.VII leaks that Luke has gone off on his own due to his immense uncontrollable power. My guess is that Luke has been chosen by the Force as the new "Father" of the Ones from the Mortis arc in TCW. If I remember correct, Anakin was meant to take the original Fathers place upon his death but refused. Perhaps, it wasnt a choice that he could make but simply something that was. The Force even went on to provide him with a Son and Daughter of his own, but his injuries on Mustafar and the Dark Side rage clouding his mind prevented him from realizing his true destiny.

After his death, the "mantle of Fathertude" lets call it, transfers to Luke, in part explaining his massive control over the Force. He may not have any children but it has been rumored that Ridley and Driver are Solo-Organa kids, so maybe a niece and nephew is enough for this purpose. Driver has been hinted to be a villain and Ridley a hero, so having a pair of siblings(twins?) on opposite sides of the force could heavily evoke Jacen and Jaina during the Darth Caedus arc.

It has also been said that Luke has started to go down the path of insanity. I see opportunity for an Abeloth-like character (a self proclaimed Mother to the Ones), to be influencing events from behind the scenes, trying to use the power of Luke and "the kids" in some nefarious scheme, probably to rebuild the Family and rule the galaxy as "Mother, Daughter, Father, and Son. I dont expect this character or aspect of the story to be touched on until the very end of this film or in the next. It is quite possible that the Ones won't be mentioned at all, but they ARE canon, thanks to TCW, and I would say that any story arc that is heavy into the history of the force like the one we are going to see will probably have something to do with them.

    Some other speculations:

    • There has been talk of Driver collecting Dark-Side/Force artifacts, I think he is looking for relics of The Ones that are strong in the Dark Side, as he is unconsciously being groomed as the new Son

    • Oscar Isaac = Ezra from Rebels all grown up? Seems like a stretch but they were in the same rebellion after all, I think there is a good enough chance that he could meet up with our heros at some point in the years between, maybe sticking around long enough to gain possession of the Falcon somehow. Maybe a drunken Sabacc game with Han, Chewie, and Zeb. He is a bit young for the character but I think he looks enough like him, and they can do anything with make-up these days. I could see him as a sort of mentor to "Kira" after Luke leaves. I would also accept Kyle Katarn or Dash Rendar but I think that either is highly unlikely.

    • Grave Robber = Darth Maul. Now more machine than man/zabrak/dathomirian/whatever. Doesnt have to be him, and but i could see how they could work in a motive for him being involved just to include a fan favorite, and it's very possible that he could still be alive at this point. Explains his fascination with Vader, the apprentice of both his archenemy and his former master.

    • Not much has been heard about scenes featuring Leia, but we know she is around. I have a gut feeling we are going to see her in Carbonite at one point. Maybe to explain away why she might appear... a little disheveled. No offense to Carrie Fisher.

    • There has been question as to why a Solo child "Kira" would live in the middle of no-where (if she is infact the spawn of Solo). Perhaps she is highly gifted in Telepathy but is untrained and has retreated from all the voices in the galaxy to search for Luke through the Force, and is interrupted by whatever battle has found it's way to her planet. I feel like anyone who knew they were force sensitive and knew the things a trained Force user could do would be able to teach themselves at least a rudimentary control over their powers.

Oscar Isaac is too young to be a grown up Ezra. Ezra is the same age as Luke Skywalker. Andy Serkis could be the proper age.

Nice work, wormholio! (great handle too lol)

Recently learned of The Ones in another thread where we speculated whether The Force would appear as a physical entity with a voice in the ST.

Learning more about them... For me, Abeloth steals the show. The most badass character in that story arc.

So I'm hoping to see her, or a Lady Vader character, or Ventress... We need an evil queen villain. This is Disney. The ST should have a female hero and a woman villain, if only to mirror things with a twist.

As for Leia... What if she is in carbonite, and someone (Abeloth bringer of Chaos/shapeshifter/Angelina Jolie type) is impersonating her, making Driver do her bidding, while making the New Republic as villainous as The Empire ever was.

    :)

Sets up a brother vs sister conflict with Han and Driver caught in the middle, torn between what to believe.

The book he mentioned. Although it appears it was referenced in The Clone Wars, many people have not or don't want to see the clone wars; particularly when they have any connection to the prequels. For a lot of fans, it's just the movies that matter. To be honest I even resent the fact that the tv shows have any influence on what goes on in the films.

there are some interesting thoughts here. Some of them make sense and would be very intriguing. It might be dangerous to rely so heavily on a backstory most of the watchers of the film are not familiar with.

    A couple of points.

    1. I might in the minority, and I might be wrong, but I don't believe Kira is Hans kid. If you remember Fisher's daughter was also cast and I think the "daughter" of han and Leia is her. Perhaps her role gets larger in the next film with Driver "falling" similar to Jacen. The reason is simpler than you may think. Many fantasy stories are built on the "farmer" type character who is young and thrust into an adventure. Both the OT and PT focus on this theme through the characters of Anakin and Luke. it is a common thread in almost all fantasy stories and despite its being in space Star Wars is a fantasy story.

Someone pointed out, Oscar Isaac is too young to be Ezra, however, we have a character in the film old enough to be the Jedi, whose name slips me. I think a lot of people are reading the grave robber wrong. In the images this is a guy in a tavern or cantina. What is a Grave Robber? A grave robber is a guy who takes relics from ancient sites, normally graves, and sells them for cash. They are a neutral character normally. The buyer of the goods, now that character would be evil, but the grave robber himself is not. Also, because of what he does he knows a lot about ancient relics. It is likely that whatever Kira finds in the desert they send her to the Grave Robber to identify. The grave robber sends her to Han as one of the only people with a chance at finding luke. This fits the motif normally seen in this kind of story. The grave Robber then might make a call to his boss the evil one and tell him its been found and the chase is on.

People should stop crying about the EU. The EU is in my mind a Fan-Canon. I want to see NEW stuff often EU stuff isnt the best, you just think it is because after ep 4-6 every SW movie was...well not so good.
Take it easy and accept the new AWESOME canon.

you loved them but call them Fan-Canon? those are much better than what little Fan-Fiction i've read.
and those books are the ones that most people don't like. read the Trawn trilogy or Shadows of the empire then say that it's fan canon. it's Legends, i think of it as an alternate universe much like the Marvel or DC multiverses.

No. I call it Fan-Canon because of the fact that they are not officially canon, but Fans love them so Fan-Canon that could co exist with the "real" canon. I dont mean that it was made by fans. :-D You nailed it: Alternate Universe

Oh, to Hell with Canon .... how did this level of anal retention creep into something as light and fun as Star Wars? It's space fantasy soap opera, not the many iterations of The Bible. If it's fun, that's all that matters. I can't care less if Luke Skywalker's lightsabre should be purple in Shades of Blimblip because it was possessed by the dog-spirit of Oojar The Grimacer in the Blazeblood Bespin Part Ten computer game published 28 years earlier.

... well, you get my drift, haha (duel)

Don't worry, they don't, and they never will.

Think of the movies as being my refrigerator, and the EU as being me letting someone use my kitchen to make a sandwich from the contents of my fridge every now and again.
These people never get to stock my fridge. Only I do that. And they have to bring their own bread. And their own plates and cutlery.
So don't ever look at the sandwich and think it is representative of the contents of my fridge. It is not. It is a sandwich that has the privilege of having access to my fridge for some of its ingredients.
So the canon says the refrigerator contains cheese, person A's sandwich contains cheese, and so does person B's over there - fair enough, they can be said to fairly represent the fridge in that way. Not like person C's though - he bought his sandwich from Tesco. The bread is the same as person A's bread, but it's not canon, because it's an egg sandwich, and there's no eggs in the fridge.
On very very rare occasions. I actually let someone take an item from my shopping bag, and use it in their sandwich, before I've even put it in my fridge. Because I'm that kind. And I've got a fridge to promote. A sandwich featuring one of my plum tomatoes is a good way to do that - they'll think it's great when they finally get to see my plum tomatoes actually in the fridge. And they'll think that the universe of the fridge is all planned out and that there is some kind of continuity going on here. Win-win.

... The cheese is starting to go off a bit. Hmm, I might throw it out tomorrow...

That is the relationship between the EU canon and the movies. Period.

This is exactly it for me. Star Wars for me is the movies. I enjoy the movies and there hasn't been a single show or book that has successfully captured my enjoyment from the films. Let people have their alternate universe etc, I just want the films to not be held hostage by them.

Keep in mind that part of the reason Lucas film sold for what it did was the revenue generated by the EU, the Video Games, etc... Those books sell and generate money which goes into Disney's pocket. Now the reason they did a way with the EU was because no filmmaker picking up episode VII wanted to also have to drag along all the novels, some of which might not be that good, in crafting their story. You have to give the filmmakers freedom to make their own story. It was not because the EU was "crap" there is some good material there and some great villains.

It is one of the attractive thing about Star Wars as a franchise. That I not only get Han, Luke, Leia and the others. I get thousands upon thousands of years worth of stories also developed and told to expand that world. That's a lot of freedom to make movies in the future. That "world" they inherited was created not just by the feature films, but by the books you so casually disregard.

If you think for a minute that a movie about Darth Revan would not generate a couple hundred million dollars, then you are a fool.

We don't need to be aware of any material beyond the six films in order to generate new stories - the movies are the Star Wars Saga unto themselves and the only manifestation of SW known to the general public who will never read comics or novels or play computer games based on the property. Therefore, the EU has been broken down into assets to be cherry-picked or disregarded by film-makers. Some new creators will have a fondness for the spin-off materials while others will only wish to create brand-new, to truly stamp their mark on the property. EU will be useful and inspirational for some, but never a dictator, or indispensable. It's a mighty building that has now been dismantled, to be picked through and salvaged, or built into new configurations - or built completely atop by new structures.
