As part of Empire Magazine's coverage of Ahsoka, the publication spoke to Natasha Liu Bordizzo about her approach to bringing Sabine Wren to live-action in the new series; they have also revealed a new still picture from the series (see above).

Rosario Dawson has hinted before that Ahsoka's main motivation in the show is to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, while Sabine's goal is to find Ezra, because she has a promise to keep. As Liu Bordizzo told Empire:

Dave Filoni also talked about the character's jump to live-action and how he had set it up as the main creative challenge to overcome when he was to continue telling the story:

[IMG] Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren in Disney Plus' Ahsoka.

The new series has a lot going on, from the introduction of the entire Rebels gang into live-action to the continuation of the Ahsoka story first set up in The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett, not to mention everything that came before for the character. Lars Mikkelsen will be introduced as Grand Admiral Thrawn, a character that is expected to play a pivotal part going forward in these New Republic Era-set shows and ultimately the theatrical event that will culminate the story.

As far as the new picture above goes, it's worth noting that it looks like we are getting two radically-different hairstyles from Sabine Wren in the show, long- and short-haired. Since she had long hair during the epilogue of Rebels, perhaps the long-haired scenes are from scenes that take place pre-epilogue.

Ahsoka is currently targeting an August release date, though we still don't have a specific date.

A bit confusing, since Sabine is short-haired at end of Rebels season 4s finale. Seeing her with long hair in the Ahsoka trailer would indicate a time jump.

I am fond of Sabine's short hairstyle so it was rather astonishing to see her with long-hair... Rebels is EPIC stay tuned in for the Ahsoka series which will be soon upon us.

    In DF, I trust!

As a big fan of Rebels, I am loving how this is all low-key setting it up for Ezra to be the major emotional reveal of the series. Nothing against Thrawn, he is a great addition to Canon and I'm excited to see him, but Ezra is probably gonna be the big climactic payoff.

Interesting... I've always taken it that Ezra was the goal for both, although as part of the Rebellion, they would want Thrawn as well. Obviously, there is a different relationship factor with Sabine, but Ahsoka also shared a personal connection with Ezra. I mean, he did save her life. I think we are going to see a great deal inside of Ahsoka's head and how she maybe became obsessed more with Thrawn because she was hearing rumors of him. I would still think she is hunting him mostly because he would lead her to Ezra. That could lead to some conflict between her and Sabine.

Yes, me too. I don't recall seeing her with short hair in the trailers, nor with long hair in animation. We do know the timeline is a bit screwy because, well, Star Wars, but hopefully DF will hope clear some of it up. I know I will be so very happy if and when we see a Sabine in her armor with short, brightly colored hair in live-action. It's gotta happen, right?

I agree. But everytime I get overly excited about the return of Ezra, I 'bring myself back to Earth' by imagining him as a scraggily-haired hermit milking a Thalia-Siren. :)

This is Disney Star Wars, turning classic animation into live action, right?. I can't wait, as a Rebels fan and Fan of Thrawn. I'm going to temper my expectations because this reminds me of how excited I was for the Kenobi series... at least I got to see Alderaan in live action... the circle is complete... on another note, they're already talking about Ahsoka season 2, great times to be a fan of Star Wars.

    cheers,

I've missed Thrawn. I've always liked seeing him in books and comics, even in his cameo at the Emperor's Retreat on Naboo in Star Wars Galaxies. Now he's gonna lay down the law on these Rebel scum and we're going to hear screams. Can't wait.

Yes, Ezra popping up live-action is going to be just as special. It's great to see all these characters pop out of the animation into live-action. Looking forward to August and serious action.

If you haven't played the Old Republic MMO, Alderaan is a playable world and there's lots to see.

Okay, I'm glad this came up, because I have a comparison, and @Rogues1138 you are the perfect person to pose this to...

Just dealing with what I consider to be valid and supported criticisms of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which are the "look" of the series and the inconsistent and sub-par production value. I chalk most of that up to creative choices and Chow and her crew going for a certain style. I think she was going for a simplistic, almost cartoon-like style, and it just came off looking a little cheap. NOW to my point, which WILL bend back around to be on topic...

I'm very rookie when it comes to comic books. Lately, I have been reading The High Republic and High Republic Adventures, and particularly in THR: Adventures, the art is not to my liking to the point that I find it frustrating at times, even though I may be enjoying the story. So do you, as a. Comic Book Guy, find that situation, and what about the opposite when the art is fantastic but the story not so much? Do you have different standards for TV/movies than for comic books/graphic novels?

And here is the recall back to keeping it on topic. I think that IF, big IF Ahsoka goes either of these directions, I think Dave has probably cranked it up to eleven on the visuals, and from my seat, and what we have seen, the story is gonna have to be incredible to "keep up with" the look and style of the show. Which is more important in today's SW, the story or the visuals?

As for comicbooks, I only collect comicbooks ( Stan Lee writes it like that: comicbooks, so I do the same) with a creative team that I'm familiar with, For example, Alan Moore & Chris Claremont are 2 writers from the 80s that I enjoy reading. Artist like John Byrne & Jim Lee are artist that I follow as well. If there's a creative team that I am not aware of, I may take a chance, sometimes the writing might be good but the art might be lackluster... so at present, I only read and collect comicbooks with writers and artist that I enjoy reading. I might take a chance if it a new title, but I am usually well informed since I read Comic Shop News which is a free publication released weekly at your Local Comic Shop. Wizard magazine used to be my go to publication, but they stopped publishing long ago. Comic Book Resources or CBR is an informative website that keeps one abreast of whats good or bad in the comicbook industry. THR: Adventures is written for a young audience, so I would not recommend it. The main Star Wars titles published by Marvel comics are the Star Wars books I would recommend. I have a digital subscription to Marvel (Marvel Unlimited) and DC (DC Universe Infinite) and independent titles: Comixology an Amazon company, which I would recommend if you are an Amazon Prime member. I also have a subscription with my LCS: Local Comic Shop, titles that I collect religiously. Goto: Midtowncomics.com, they'll send you comicbooks bagged and boarded through the mail in mint condition always, a great store I stand by. Mycomicshop.com is also a great resource to find rare comicbooks and comicbooks in general.

I treat movies the same way, Screenwriters or directors that I'm familiar with, or I might take a chance depending on what I've read about it, or just the trailer. Comicbooks to me are tv/films on paper and visa versa.

Try Grimjack (hard to find, First Comics title) by John Ostrander and Tim Truman, and Scout, by Tim Truman.

IMO - Grimjack was the inspiration for Quinlan Vos/ Jedi with a Gun.
