What is everyone's "parameters" for the new trilogy? I.E. what are your minimum "must haves" for any SW trilogy?

    Here are mine:

    1. Strong score with theme music that ties together through the 3 movies

    2. Keep the original Lucas vision of the movies being like "1930's serials"

    3. Opening Crawl!!!!

Other than that I am excited for the new trilogy and look forward to new worlds, new characters, different technology, new starships.

A question for the mods , @FN-3263827 - how about a new forum dedicated to the "New Trilogy", separate from "Original" and "Sequel Trilogy"?

    Something never explored before

Maybe see some familiar faces, maybe even Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo but totally new characters

New worlds, new weapons, more about the force...

I'm sure there will be one at some point. Probably when there is more information available about this trilogy.

My must have for the trilogy would be a strong story with strong characters. Music sure. I'd love to see new worlds, which this is a given, and most definitely the force. Timeline wise, I'd like to see something in the distant past, to see what the galaxy was like long before young Anakin Skywalker.

I would let Michael Giacchino have free reign for the score, for all 3.......

Not a bad choice. I did like some of the music in R1 and he didn't have a lot of time to do that.

i have a higher tolerance for familiarity, but i'm okay with new stuff too.
i'm less interested in delving that much into the Force. i feel like that's part of what made the now-Legends EU a hot mess.
but then i've always liked even the FS characters more when they're not using the Force.
too much "magic" waters the wonder of it.

part of what made Chirrut so awesome is that you knew he was very close to the Force and at any moment you wondered if he was using it or going to use it in an more obvious way. sometimes in Rebels, i think: why do you gotta jump onto the speeder to do that? can't you just crash it with your mind? or whatever. it gets tiresome and frustrating trying to sort out the ranges and limitations of power as if all these "tricks" are level-up cards or something.
it's just not interesting to me and makes a lot of the action less exciting and less heroic because there's no stakes when you can fall off a mountain and land on your feet.

Yeah pretty much this. Just be good and be Star Wars.
Don't try to be hard science fiction because Star Wars is a fantasy series.

Must have: Original planets, ships and characters.

No thanks: Good guys being underdogs against an evil Imperialesque organization.

I like the way you think. I know what you mean by Serial style films.. Though a grittier SW by Rian Johnson would be interesting to see, I've always enjoyed the less serious and just plain fun, re watchable, good feeling films that Lucas, Spielberg (WITH JOHN WILLIAMS!!) always seem to nail. Look at a film like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It's dark AF, but you still leave the theater feeling great and optimistic with a sh*t eating grin on your face. HOW? I don't have a clue. It's magic in a bottle. Truly movie magic. Sure I like all other genres and tones, but we NEED more of the ambitious film makers out there that aren't afraid to put whatever they want in their film (in moderation of course.. we don't want another Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. :)) Haha

Some of my parameters -- not only for the newly announced trilogy but all future Star Wars stories as well:

Above all, I wish for future storytellers to keep Star Wars a story and an event the entire family can enjoy for generations to come.

Let there be world-building like never before. Even with all the stories told thus far, we've only seen a small portion of the Star Wars galaxy.

Introduce us to new civilizations and things such as alternate views of the Force (e.g. the "stone power" Yoda learned of in the comics).

Build further upon the mythological, philosophical, and mystical aspects of Star Wars.

Maintain visual and informational/poetic connectivities with the overall Saga. There's plenty of room for creativity, new visuals, novel characters, and innovative storylines, but a prospective storyteller should not stray too far from the Star Wars look and feel to the breaking point it's no longer looking or feeling like a Star Wars story.

Avoid cross-overs except for in comics.

Always look toward John Williams as your initial reference point for how Star Wars soundtracks should be conceived.

Plan for everything hence, at least as far as the films go, to be considered canon. No decanonizations in the future: to put this another way, no future story should require an earlier "canon"-established story to be invalidated

The LucasFilm Story Group should continue to oversee all storyline development to ensure continuity and to safeguard the canon.

@JediMasterRobert Awesome post, well thought out and I agree with all your points. Yes all future scores need to look to Williams for style.

I would submit that my #3 requirement, though sounding minor, is actually one of the defining things of SW.....the Opening Crawl. Although I am a HUGE fan of R1, the absence of a crawl still disappoints me.
