Official Indy 5 Harrison Ford Discussion Thread

I think that Indy is more stand alone than Han Solo when it comes to an "ensemble" movie so I'd say that it would be optimistic to see him be a leading man and do a crazy adventure again and NOT become a mentor ...

 

I lean to believe that they are going to make a genuine Indiana Jones film, as in Harrison will be the lead throughout the entire film. I Don't think it will be the movie where he tells of an earlier adventure and they recast Indy as someone else.
I have no idea what they are going to do with his age, because we have to admit it's getting a bit silly. A 77 year old Indiana Jones doing action and murdering people?
I don't know. What definitely needs to be in the movie is a good story and Indiana Jones has to murder people. It definitely needs to be more gritty.

 

I think they're going to do "one last adventure" with Indy, and in the process, have him pass the mantle off to a NEW CHARACTER which will carry on the franchise.

Mind you, I'm not talking about his son (like Shia), or a re-casting, I mean a brand new character that is similar in spirt to Indy but has a different name. That way Lucasfilm will continue to profit off the franchise while still honoring the character of Indiana Jones and not doing a cheap, cash-grab reboot 5 years later.

Just a thought...

 

The story would take place in the 1960s I suppose. Maybe a storyline with the Cuban Missile Crisis? Although it could just be film with Indy going on an adventure in another country. Maybe he meets up with an old friend in Romania or Ukraine and he gives him directions to find something, and he embarks on an adventure from there. I also believe he needs a younger sidekick, not his son, maybe somebody in their 40s? I'm spit ballin here.

 

I just keep picturing how Harrison Ford might be dying or "removed" from his two most iconic franchises within three years.

 

They already have a publicity photo out.

That picture just reminded me..."old" Indy is supposed to be 50-ish in that but he has an eye patch but Indy in KotCS does not have an eye patch so it makes me wonder just HOW MUCH this is canon .

EDIT: I read further and it says that old Indy is supposed to be 93 years old so I was mistaken .

 

I think it's like on the same level as Star Wars: The Clone Wars before Disney wiped the old EU. T-Canon: definitive canon, unless it conflicts with the films. There was a reference to the chronicles in KOTCS: something about Pancho Villa.

 

Actually it was only conceptualized but it was too expensive to film or something like that and it became the eventual premise for "...Crystal Skull" in 2008 but it would be a cool follow up to bring things full circle with a 93-year old Indy in the fifth movie .

How can I put this . . . Ford will be too old. If the movie is due to hit the theaters in 2019, Ford will be 77 by then. Which means he'll be at least 76 when the film is being shot. He will be too old.

 

Lucasfilm Story Group head, Pablo Hidalgo has stated they don't know what is canon and what isn't but they will likely only use the films and Young Indy series as canon.

 

I didn't think Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was that bad. I mean, it was kind of weird and cheesy, and I suppose it didn't really recapture the feeling of the original films (like TFA did with Star Wars), but it wasn't terrible. I don't think they need to ignore it or pretend like it never happened.

As far as Harrison being too old, he can be 100 years old and I'll still believe he's Indiana Jones.

 

The bond thing works because it's a book series that can be open to interpretation but Indy is a physical screen icon and would be cheapened by replacing Harrison ford .

The trick these days is to do a saga so I'd say they'd go as far as Indy 6 AT THE MINIMUM .
