So, it seems like crazy talk to be surprised by the idea of a major character dying at the end of the film. With that being said, there are a lot of characters and everybody and their mother seems to be banking on the fact that Harrison Ford will die at the end of this movie. But will he be the only one?

I actually feel like it'll be more interesting if Han Solo doesn't die -- it just feels too easy and expected. I'm thinking that Leia and Luke are top candidates for a dramatic death in Episode VII. Do you think they would kill off multiple characters? How much is too much death for what is essentially a Disney film?

Interesting question.I recall reading somewhere that Disney wanted this new triology to be carried by the next generation.I personally doubt that all of our 3 old heros will bite the dust in episode 7.My bets are on Han Solo going out with a bang in ep7.I do not see Leia have that significant role that she has to be killed to give us viewers closure in regards to her and her role.
I think she will have minor apperances.I think Luke will survive and in the future seen sporadically as some kind of master Yoda that his apprentice can come for advice and maybe training.I must say that when I first saw Mark his physical fitness,I thought that he would go goner for sure and that quite early on in the movie.Seeing the latest pic of him with the Pinewood sign.He seems fit enough to convince me to still have some part of the saga in the future.Harrison Ford is older and in my opinion had passed his best be used date a long time ago for action roles.
So again my bets are on Han going out with style like only he can.

    Leia

The obvious choices are either Luke (in a self-sacrificing move that still frees him to be a force ghost in the rest of the trilogy) or Han (in a self sacrificing move that was planned for Ep VI)

But if Leia dies, you get everyone in the gut.. you get her husband, her brother, and her kids all in one swoop...

Let's say for a moment that my Batman theory is right, and Luke's wife is dead and he has gone vengeful crusader. If they get Leia too, it might push Han into shooting first again...

    One per ST film.

    Leia in VII.
    Han in VIII.
    Luke in IX.

I'm getting tired of "major character dying" theories. Our gen. is seeing the Hollywood where to "wow" the audience the film makers resort to grand visuals or killing off cast to create hype. It's not going to make the film better or worse. You can create a powerful and suspenseful story through strong narrative! I was intrigued when JJ killed off Kirk instead of Spock and then he completely undid the story's impact by bringing him back 15 min later. Stop jerking the audience around, commit to heartfelt drama and run with it!

Major characters were waxed in the recent "Batman" films.
It's possible a main character will bite it in EP7 just to set in motion the action/plot & motivate the younger characters(raise the stakes).
I highly doubt Leia will be smoked in a Alderaan type attack or WMD scene(to use the common/leaked plot of a weapon that can completely destroy entire star systems).
Han Solo is a Vegas bet thus far(based on the tiny amounts of set-story rumors). He's old(early 70s) & not able to roll thru 3 full scale action movies.
I have a "feeling" Han & Leia may NOT be a couple at the start. She will be the supreme leader of the galaxy or a major leader of the new Alliance. Han may have gone rogue again & gave up the Alliance OR "retired" from being the fleet commander to sulk over the last 30 years or so. They may be the parents of Daisy & another son(Isaac or Driver) who feel torn between the 2.
I do think as more set leaks/tidbits roll in, Luke Skywalker will be either MIA in the first part or he'll be a character in disguise.

From the set links & story rumors(as of now UNCONFIRMED), it could be a plot where Leia gets smoked in the reported WMD event(first act). They could jump ahead 10/20 years then show Han Solo back to being a burned out scoundrel & smuggler or having PTSD like issues over the incident & the death of Leia.
Chewbacca's arm may have sustained permanent damage(or if too is a cyborg limb).
As noted, the EP7 events are 30/32 years after the Endor ROTJ battle.
It's NOT to say everything has to happen in real time. Id dread seeing any flashbacks or long dialogue scenes but a lot can change in 30 years.
The "Pearl Harbor/9-11" type event could have driven Luke underground or forced him to go MIA for decades.
Until the new young cast seek him out or attempt to unify the original cast for one last mission.
