i have no sense of these things anymore. depends on the city, new releases, that sort of thing.

when i was young movies ran forever. nowadays they seem to shove things out the door so quick that if you don't go see something in the first couple of weeks you risk missing it altogether.

so long as it's making money, it'll stay, i guess. i'm aleady seeing a big reduction in the numbers of showings, though. the matinee here only has 3D options, which stinks.

I've got a (more than) double-yikes for you:

In 1977, my friend Steve and I would go to Star Wars (later to be retitled A New Hope) after school. The management (who are still friends of mine), threw up their hands and just waved us in... and stopped charging us.

By early 1978*, I had seen Star Wars 35 times in the cinema. I know because I kept count.

It's part of my DNA now. :D

As much as I enjoy The Force Awakens, I don't imagine seeing it as many times in the theatre.

[*It stayed in theatres for a year and a half!]

that's awesome! i was too young to take myself to see Star Wars as much as i would have liked. the most times i've ever seen a movie in the theatre is 14. don't know if i can break that record with TFA, but i'm going to try to see it at least 10.

Also: those days are gone. It's a lot harder (and more expensive) now, to repeat that many viewings. For a couple of reasons...

First, movies simply don't stay in theatres anywhere near long enough.

And theatre management is nowhere near as likely to let people in free. Back then, yeah, but not now.

I'm curious, though, for what the record for someone seeing The Force Awakens in the theatre will be.

At what I paid for TFA, ($14 Canadian) the total budget for 35 viewings would be $490. Pricey, but doable.

yeah budget is very prohibitive these days. in the early ninetys when i lived in the theatre, it was $1.50 a showing and like you said, the movies ran forever!

i'm hitting the matinee at anywhere from $6 to $10 depending on the theatre, but that's still steep for me at the moment since i'm cash poor.

totally worth it though. i will forgo any other little luxury, just to enjoy this as many times as i can.

Sure dreams count -- as long as they're providing you receipts.

I'm hoping my kids ask me to go see it again because of so I'll definitely go back and see it again for sure. I can't wait to be able to get it on DVD because then the question will be how many nights in a row will I watch it?

I've seen it 11 times by now. But Deadpool is dominating all the Imax screens everywhere, so I guess Imax is over for Star Wars. However it might occur that when Deadpool is out of its first two or three weeks TFA will return to Imax screens. It happened with other movies as well in the past few weeks.

Very good your six viewings behind me, I saw Deadpool 2 nights ago it was great but I feel fans won't want to let TFA go just yet.

Seen Deadpool 3 times now too. Always been my fave comic book character since I started reading them (about 15 years ago I think)
