Peter Mayhew's wife, Angie Mayhew, recently opened up about the sale of Peter's Star Wars memorabilia. Auction house Ryedale Auctioneers will sell items found in Peter Mayhew's attic after he passed away. Some of the memorabilia items on sale include Star Wars scripts and call sheets.

Angie expressed her devastation on Twitter:

Angie updated fans using the Peter Mayhew Foundation Twitter account, confirming that she had 'communicated our desire that Peter's items be returned to the Mayhew family.' The items were found in the old Mayhew house after the new occupants decided to look through the attic. They discovered quite a few things from Peter's career as Chewbacca, such as signed photographs and scrapbooks (via The Gazette Herald).

Peter Mayhew was deeply beloved by the Star Wars fandom. He passed away in May 2019. Peter appeared as Chewbacca in some of the biggest Star Wars films: A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1983), Revenge Of The Sith (2005), and The Force Awakens (2015).

How the heck does something like this happen? Such a shame... morals too often go out the window when there's a chance to make a couple bucks. I hope someone has enough decency to return them back to Mayhew's family. Even if they have to buy them first.

Very strange. They must've been in an awful hurry to move houses if they weren't able to send a spry cousin or neighbor up to clear out the attic for a buck and an anecdote. Very odd.

Heck I would have flown over and done it for nothing!

From what it sounds, they probably weren't worried about it because there was an assumed understanding that it would be returned to them. And then, I'm guessing someone snaked out of that and gave in to other temptations. :(
