    Never once have I heard the lightsaber blade to be called a plasma blade. I'm not saying that this isn't just new terminology, but I just found the words 'plasma blade' to be a little odd.

    I thought also in the old EU it was explained that all lightsabers consisted in a blade of plasma emitted from the hilt and mantained in the shape of a blade by an energy field

    Look at the two font types. Take BB8. The entire droid is called BB8 (bold), but on top it has a photo receptor (not bold). Take the Millennium Falcon. The entire ship is called the Millennium Falcon (bold), but it has a cockpit and other parts (not bold). Luke's light saber (bold), plasma blade (not bold).
