Poll - What does the title refer to?

Probably a mix of Ben Solo returning plus giving us answers about the Skywalker family as a whole.

 

Skywalker as a spirit or philosophy rather than a title for the new Jedi.
Either that or the redemption of Ben Solo.

 

Kylo Ren dies, only to get resurrected and rise as Ben Solo, the last Skywalker. That's my preferred outcome for the title.

I wonder though if Ben could "diminish" after be and possibly also Rey could lose "their powers", or simply be closed off from the force after IX. This could allow for them to live and to possibly lead to a more final conclusion of the saga, where the Vergence of the Force that was Anakin, their offspring and most probably Rey as well, would no longer be needed as the prophecy would finally be fulfilled?

 

None of these. It just Luke's story being told across the galaxy.

That would be the most disappointing thing ever.

 

I like this. I’d prefer this “resurrection” being a recovery from a coma or tremendous injury, like Finn or, to some extent, Leia, rather than Kylo turning into your standard force ghost with the apostle look and the blue hue.

I like to think everyone is overthinking this and that JJ is using the title to lure back fans who felt betrayed by the mistreatment of Luke in TLJ. I think Luke will return not as a force ghost and not as a flesh and blood human but as something more evolved. They will "Gandalf the White" Luke Skywalker and not fully explain or reveal if he's alive or dead but just that he is there and interacting with the physical world. Like he showed up in ROTJ in all black, he will show up here in all or mostly white with 2 hands, no beard and the twinkle back in his eye. Those who want to think he is spiritual can think that and those who want him back in the flesh can think that and nobody is wrong an nobody is right. I could be wrong

 

I chose them all so that I have the best chance of being right.

 

Thats what I have been arguing as well. I even placed a 200 credit wager on it being exactly that.

 

What if the "Rise of Skywalker" is literally a line that Palpatine, in whatever form he is in, says.

Palpatine: I was responsible for the "Rise of Skywalker" when I used the Force to bring forth Anakin Skywalker through Shmi.

 

Rey taking the name Skywalker is my preference. She is the hero of this trilogy. I’m not a big fan of the Skywalker name replacing Jedi. If it refers to Luke I’m cool with that as long as he is not coming back in the flesh. Since this movie is ending the entire saga if it refers to the Skywalker name in general or how Anakin came to be it would be cool

 

Episode IX will actually be a feature length mocumentary detailing the meteoric in-universe rise of a galactic legend. But did all of that fame and acclaim and free blue milk go to his head with tragic consequences? There’s more to his story than you know. ‘Luke Skywalker: Behind the Force’.

I think the title is simply meant to subvert our expectations. With this being the last film in the saga (as of right now), you’d expect it to be something conclusive but the name seems to imply a new beginning rather than an end. It’ll all make sense this December...

 

I missed this before. This is definitely the most elegant option.
