Why do you guys all want to see Ezra dead? May be because you want to see him appearing as ghost in the rest of main episodes 7,8,9? Frankly, it will be worse for you, if you hate his character. Until you are inside the old canon, nothing new will come into a movie that is destined to be a platform of introducing new ideas to our society (tech, too). Religious ideas in Star Wars should be leading, not set aside as the last unprofitable thing (as they a re not on planet earth). That wrong view of the Jedi to spent too much on ploitics and too little on their religious upgrade, costed the loss of almost everything in the galaxy, including their benevolent promising young midichlorian- conceived hero. The same mistake won't be repeated, not by the new Disney filmmakers. Ezra has capability to gain moral spiritual and physical strength beyond recognition, using combination of old temples, teaching of Kanan and his unique intuition. He already knocked down Vader without using lightsaber. Ezra continues because Star Wars continues to be the mind shaping biggest film today for generations. Not just 30y oldie that you watch out of sentimental memories of our youth. I can say more, but I think I said enough in other threads dedicated to Ezra alone.

There are numerous scenarios how the Rebel group could go to secure location in a part of galaxy not controlled by Republic/Empire, former Trade federation territory. There they could develop pretty strong spiritual school (with or without Yoda, I prefer Yoda out for now). Then they can challenge the empire in battles, not necessarily in stealing exactly those war plans of Death star that will make them die. If that happens however, and depending what will happen in Episode 7, one may close the book Star Wars as the history of the most popular film for youths at their time that ended in 2015. Practically Luke Skywalker cannot play the main hero in Episode 7. Therefore you need new teenagers to learn the force. You need new Ezras! Here is the connection. You need more characters like Ezra, not to kill the only such jedi for now. We need to enlarge our horizon, not to make it even more closed as in a closed space around black hole. I never liked the dogmatic approach of Yoda that proved quite unsuccessful in Episodes 2 and 3. Will star Wars spirituality transcend that level, with or without Yoda as its main priest?

I have a feeling that Ezra is going to survive mainly because of his scar. Maybe it's just me, but there seems to be a reason for it, as if the creators are giving us a clue as to what he may be in future installments.

It would be awesome if they incorporated any of these characters into the Rogue One Anthology film. I'm not so convinced that all the characters in Rebels need to be killed off entirely even into the original series. In terms of the lightsaber users, (Ezra, Ahsoka, Kanan) the Rebel Alliance always has the option that these assets would be better suited leading the cause with their saber put away and stay out of the limelight of Vader. Of all the non-jedi-esque characters in the Alliance Hera seems to have the most longterm rebel potential.

Hi, fellow Rebels!! Long time lurker, first time poster. Let me add my two cents, I was disappointed when I found that Rebels was going to feature Jedi characters wielding lightsabers and all for a variety of reasons. This is supposed to be the Dark Times, a time where, as Grand Moff Tarken said in ANH, that the Jedi's fire had gone out of the universe. It lessens the impact of Vader's Jedi purge, and it undermines Luke as "The New Hope." So I am not too keen on Kanan and Ezra being Jedi whether full "code following" Jedi or not. Don't want their story to water down Luke as the true Return of the Jedi. I say that all of the Rebels should die before the might of Darth Vader.

I don't think Kanan or Ezra do need to die.

That Obi-Wan tells Luke, he is the only one that might just be a clever lie. I mean, he needs Luke to take out Vader, so telling him, there are others who have the same abilities as him, is not the best move.

The same when Obi-Wan talks to Yoda in their famous "He's our only hope." "No, there's another" talk.

We all take it to be about their Force sensitivity, but what if their specialness is not that they can be Jedi (and very likely powerful ones at that), but the fact that they have straight line access to Vader and does the emperor.
    They are his children!
Which gives them at once great potential and an emotional connection.

Luke and Leia are probably the only two potential Jedi in the galaxy that are not going to be killed on sight.

Kanan and Ezra will have to be kept hidden. Whatever they're doing will be important for the Rebellion but letting them anywhere near Vader once he picks up their "scent" is a death sentence. The same for any other Jedi or Force sensitive still alive.

I am pretty sure though, there will be enough work for them on the fringes of the Empire.

Ahsoka on the other hand... I mean, Star Wars has a great tradition of killing of the old teacher types for the sake of protecting the young ones.

I just want Kanan to live and make beautiful little human-Twi'lek babies with Hera. Is that too much to ask?

Here is my interpretation of Luke being "The New Hope". Kinda like what @Fussel2107 said, what if their strength is not because of their Force ability but because of their tie to Vader. Yoda and Obi Wan faced Palpatine and Vader. I don't believe either of them would think Kanan and Ezra would be able to accomplish what they could not. What if Obi Wan and Yoda both knew that only Anakin/Vader was powerful enough to defeat Palpatine? So, the only hope left would be to turn Vader back from the light with one or both of his children. They never told Luke that he had to kill Vader, just that he had to confront him.

It's pretty obvious that Ezra will live, after all, he is the main character of the series. Those I feel are most likely to die are Ahsoka, Rex, and Kanan. Ahsoka has just become too much of a threat to the empire, being a jedi (or light-side force sensitive if you want to get technical). Like everyone else is saying, in the episode 2 finale, we'll see her epic fight with Vader, which will result in either him or the emperor finishing her. Simply because of Yoda's statement that Luke is only other jedi, Kanan will have to go, probably by Vader or a large pack of Inquisitors. Rex, well, he's old already and we've seen enough of him through the Clone Wars, so he'll be easily to kill off. The rest of the ghost crew will definitely get deeply damaged by the death of the above characters, and may not rejoin the rebel alliance. It's difficult to say where Ezra's path lies. He doesn't really want to be a jedi or a warrior. He just really hates the empire. I really don't think he'll turn to the dark side, although he certainly does have a capacity for it, he just hates the empire too much. After the deaths of Ahoska and Kanan, he'll be really hurt, probably secluding himself somewhere, but again, he loves action, so that doesn't particularly sound like him. The only character besides Ezra that I'm certain will live is Chopper.

If that comes at the expense of Yoda's credibility then "yes", it's too much to ask.

Reading the aforementioned interview with Dave Filoni I'm somewhat disappointed. I had really hoped that he would be among those that find Ben Kenobi's "from a certain point of view" rubbish objectionable, but not something worth adopting:

"It is possible to interpret it as, Luke is the last person that’s following the path as laid out by the Jedi Order, which we knew. The way of the Jedi is not the only way to use the light side of the Force. Luke is taught by Obi-Wan and Yoda, who very much followed the dogma of the day. So, he is the last of that line for sure. That’s absolutely true. But you don’t have to be a Jedi to use the Force. You don’t have to be a Sith to use the dark side."

YODA Luke...Luke...Do not...Do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor,
or suffer your father's fate, you will. Luke, when gone am I,
the last of the Jedi will you be.
Luke, the Force runs strong in your
family. Pass on what you have learned, Luke...

So while Yoda was dying (!) the last thing he did was to tell Luke something "from a certain point of view"?!?! Even throughout the PT Yoda was the figure, the symbol of unwavering and uncorrupted Jedi integrity.

And now I learn that Dave Filoni is thinking about tempering with that?!? Is Dave Filoni becoming the new George Lucas (i.e. not in a positive sense).

I can't sit still for that. Then Dave Filoni and team should have made sure from the beginning not to make Kanan a Jedi Knight. They had known and see ROJ, they knew what Yoda had been saying and they should have considered that.

Instead they have taken an irreversible path. Either the Jedi characters of Rebels are dead by the time of ROJ or they have all been turned to the Dark Side.

You can't have cake and eat it, too, IMHO. Pick your poison.

Well, but he is not really a Jedi Knight, as his training was cut short by the order 66...

For me, I would like see Ezra turning dark, Kanan striking him down and completely turning away from the force as result of the guilt (a bit like Obi-Wan with Anakin, but since Kanan is not fully trained, he would not be as able to handle the emotion, maybe?). That way Yoda would still be right. Not sure if that would be too dark a path for Disney XD to go, particularly as, as pointed above, Ezra is the main character (entry point for the younger audience) of the series.

That does make sense to me, it would be an easily recognizable sign...

    I don't really know!

PS: I think that Ahsoka falling at the hands of Vader is a Harloff TM "take it to the bank"...

    Welcome to the Cantina!

But isn't that again along the lines "from a certain point of view"? Kanan quoted Ben and Yoda, he talked the talk and he walked the walk of a Jedi, regardless whether his training was cut short or not, and I do not recall him ever saying "I'm not a Jedi". Undoubtedly he is not a Jedi Master, possibly not even a Jedi Knight but a Jedi learner nevertheless (and Yoda did not say "The last of the Jedi Knights will you be" to Luke - IMHO that would have been the least to justify Filoni's "thoughts")

Now that sounds like an interesting and possible premise, IMHO. Something happens that makes Kanan reject the Jedi ways to the point where he objectively no longer constitutes a Jedi according to Yoda and the audiences' understanding.

    Thanks, long time lurker...

I see your point, and it is also a worry for me as Yoda is aware of both Kanan and Ezra.
If we assume that the only possible outcomes are death, dark side or abandoning force using/Jedi ways, then I don't see many options.

Maybe Kanan could be the one turning, triggered by something happening to Hera, and Ezra is the one who kills him and abandons the ways of the force because of it, but still be alive and recognizable by the scars?

    As I said, I don't really know! :)

But for arguments sake, if Ahsoka was to survive, do you think that Yoda would count her in? She was also trained as a Jedi but left?

Difficult to answer. With Luke being the last Jedi and Yoda's wish to pass the knowledge on, would Ashoka have benefitted from Luke or rather the other way around? I'd say if there would have still been anybody associated with the Jedi around from which Luke could learn, then Yoda's dying words would be false.

I like that point of view, that Yoda would be referring to a prospective teacher. I think that would only leave Kanan. I don't think Ezra would be in a position to teach anyone.

As for the show, I think it would be too repetitive if all the "Jedi aligned" Force users are just killed by Vader or an Inquisitor (also a plot point that should be addressed somehow) and if they turn to the dark side then wouldn't Palpatine have used them in the OT events?

That is why I see the teacher-student confrontation and then the abandoning of the path altogether as a viable resolution. As to who survives, Kanan or Ezra:
"Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future..." (even if this is actually the past...)

But here is strong evidence he did. Now, the OT novelizations were mostly based on George Lucas' original screenplays and the ANH one "by George Lucas" features the description of Vader as follows (apparently 4th draft but a bit prior to January 15, 1976):

"Two metres tall. Bipedal. Flowing black robes trailing from the figure and a face forever masked by a functional if bizarre black metal breath screen - A Dark Lord of the Sith was an awesome, threatening shape as it strode through the corridors of the rebel ship. Fear followed the footsteps of all the Dark Lords. ... Once-resolute rebel crewmembers ceased resisting, broke and ran in panic at the sight of the black armor."

I think it's fair to say that this particular passage (at least for the old fossil generation) established two things:

    1. There were several Dark Lords of the Sith by the time of the OT
    2. They had been seen in action and gained such a notorious reputation that the mere sight of them could break down resistance

And last but not least one of the premises of Rebels had been that the Empire is looking for Force-sensitive cadets to train and turn them to the Dark Side, apparently to become Dark Lords.
