My gut is telling me that The Force Awakens will be good no matter what.. it will be as deep as Empire with the pacing of Return of the Jedi.. and that episode 8 and 9 will always be considered lesser movies (like the two precious trilogies) however, I believe Rian Johnson will take Star Wars back to a slower, more tense style like A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back... which would make for a better universe ahead of us for the next trilogy.

How do you think it will go? Can you see Star Wars continuing past our lifetimes?

I agree with you ... as far as TFA. Not so sure about Rian Johnsons VIII though, I am very nervous about TFA being so good that VIII goes down in flames. I am hoping though that J.J. and Kasdan set him up with something.

I think SW will definitely continue past our lifetimes. I think there will be many more SW "Skywalker" episode trilogies to come after the ST. Episodes X-XII, Episodes XIII-XV and even Episodes XVI-XVIII.

I completely disagree... after seeing the brothers bloom & Looper I think 8 will be the best of the trilogy.

Initially when I started watching the brothers bloom I was thinking "oh man I hate these characters and the silly vibe of the film" but soon afterwards I was completely sucked in... that film was actually quite a ride. He's an awesome writer.

What I'm nervous about is the "beyond". If they go ahead and make episodes 10 through 12. John Williams will either be too old or might not even be alive anymore/ to score the next trilogy if it will exist. If it fits with the 15 to 10 year gap that we've been seeing with the other trilogies then even I might be too old to enjoy more. Who knows though... I'm open minded.

But I'm so pumped that new Star Wars films are being made to begin with... I sort of O'D'ed on Star Wars this year.

8 and 9 are too far ahead for me to have an opinion on it. Give me trailers and some photos at least to gauge the look and tone of episodes 8 and 9 and I might have some idea of how it's all going to pan out. Disney and Kathleen Kennedy have obviously chosen these directors with good reason and until they prove otherwise with TFA I have every trust in their judgement. TFA is going to be awesome - can you feel it?

I think Episode 9 could be the one movie that is the letdown to some fans as that's the trend in movie trilogies.

The 3rd movie has to tie up loose ends and answer all of our burning questions and that's a tough thing to pull off because fans have expectations on how it should end.

Think of how many TV series finales disappointed fans because they didn't end the way fans wanted? I think the weakest movie of each Trilogy are ROTJ & ROTS simply because Lucas failed on tying up many loose ends.

Absolutely agree with you. Even though in some ways both end of trilogy films had good elements to them ultimately they were both considerably flawed. I think both trilogies seemed to have an overall feeling of being cobbled together as it went along. It certainly doesn't feel fully realised from the beginning. I hope.and pray this won't be the case with the new trilogy.

I really think Episode 8 will be the Empire Strikes Back of the modern era. Rian Johnson is such a proficient director, and I get this feeling he knows exactly what the middle episode needs to deliver. He has the perfect tone and visual aesthetic for it.

I'm really concerned about Episode 9. Now while I didn't like Jurassic World, I love Colin Trevorrow, and I think he'll knock it out of the park GIVEN that he's delivered a strong script from the likes of Arndt or Kasdan. I really hope Arndt is writing Ep 9. Then I would be very happy.

It all comes down to the writer, because I do think Colin is a good director.

I actually think TFA has a very good chance of surpassing TESB. I agree with you about Episode 8 being darker in tone.

I don't know about Colin Trevorrow. Jurassic World seemed dumb to me so I didn't even bother with it. I'm guessing Kathleen Kennedy and co's decision to hire him was probably based on safety not guaranteed. I haven't seen it but it got 90 percent on rotten tomatoes, I want to see it soon to form an opinion. I'm still not convinced whether that qualifies the right to direct a star wars film but we shall see. I can think of a dozen directors straight of the bat that I'd rather see direct episode 9.

I think Rian Johnson is writing both episode 8 and 9. Again I don't know if that's the best choice. We can only hope there are good reasons for these choices. Out of the two I'm more convinced about Johnson's talent than Trevorrow's.

I don't see why Johnson would write Episode 9 (apart from the treatment). Writing a Star Wars movie is exhausting, and probably one of the most high pressure writing gigs out there in the film industry. If you frill up, you're hated for generations. Also, Johnson is very meticulous about his work -- he's an "auteur" of sorts -- so you can bet for the next 2 years his SOLE focus will be shooting, editing, and polishing Episode VIII. That won't leave much time for a draft. Maybe enough for a treatment, though. And honestly, I'm willing to bet he wrote that treatment before he even got into pre-production for Episode VIII.

Safety Not Guaranteed is one of my favorite films. It's really teaming with life, and the characters, in my opinion, have a lot of heart and really pop off the screen.

Jurassic World looks good (besides the dumb ass coloration they did) and it shows Trevorrow can handle a big budget tentpole film. It simultaneously shows that Trevorrow can't write worth blast when it comes to big blockbusters... so I'm guessing it's really his directing of the two films, and not his writing, that won him the gig. Also, apparently, he's a joy and very easy to work with.

He also has a new film coming out next year... a smaller indie film, so we'll have to see how he does. I, for one, am optimistic.

I'm not used to forums that allow negativity. So I'll be a little timid to say this, but... Everything I have seen makes me wish this was a spinoff and not a saga film.
