These days even the problems I find somewhat entertaining. The casting of Glover while strange is somehow entertaining in a way. Actually I can't decide how strange it was or if it was lazy or what the deal was. I mean you could say it was a bold choice to go from Arnold to an older gentlemen whose trademark was wheezing and getting too old for this... stuff. He looks more like a detective than an Arnold or Stallone for sure. But then it also seems kind of typecasting of Glover who was riding the Lethal Weapon wave so I don't know how much credit to give them. In a way I find myself not only pulling for the character but also Danny Glover who seems a little out of his element and never going to get another starring role like this that I know of... although he'd have supporting roles in much better films. The casting makes it very much a product of its time in a weird/fun way, a short window in time when Hollywood wondered if Glover could be an action star on his own without limping after Mel Gibson. The answer was "not a chance" but it's still fun to watch the attempt.

It's not a great movie or anything but sometimes enjoyable. It's almost as much fun to try and imagine what was going on at the studio when this thing was greenlit. I still like it more than any Predator or Aliens vs Predator movie made since. I think that might be part of the reason my opinion on it has softened over time, the fact that they've made a bunch of other Predator and instead of it being the weak link in a duology it's now graduated to being the second best (for me at least, and a wide margin behind the first) in a franchise.

So, I went and bought some movie ticket vouchers through an employee scheme thing at work, planning to exchange the vouchers for Prey tickets tomorrow, only to discover that Prey ain’t hittin’ the movie theater at all! It’s straight to D+! If there was ever a silly summer popcorn movie made for the cinema, it's gotta be Prey, right?

Oh well… I wonder what I’m gonna use those ticket vouchers for now? Hm… well, TP: Maverick is still running...

Anyway, Prey is getting ridiculously good reviews and ratings, and as much as I love this corny franchise and want desperately to like Prey, I find it hard to believe that this one is so universally loved. I hope they’re right and that this film becomes a major hit for D+ :D

After reading your post, I must watch P2 again, I watched it when it was first released in the theater, and later, when it was first released on home video. What intrigues me about the Predators, is their technology and mystery. I would like to tap further into their world, and discover, why do they hunt for sport?

I want to know more about their culture. These elements have been teased in the films they have appeared in, and that is what draws me to the franchise, the mystery. But once the mystery is revealed, if done poorly, would be a great disservice to the license, so I believe the mystery is what keeps them interesting...

On another note, Marvel Comics is releasing a new Predator comicbook ( first published with Dark Horse Comics, they lost the Star Wars, Alien, and Predator license, respectively, with the Disney takeover) next week, on Wednesday the 10th, just in time for the new film's release.

Predator vs. the entire Marvel Universe ( Marvel is marketing it that way, but it is actually a story of a woman named Theta, who is on a mission of revenge stalking the Predator in the spaceways, who slaughtered her family) sounds cliche, but somewhat interesting, if done right.

Marvel Comics has released a variety of astounding book covers by some of the publishing industry's leading artist, ( there is a David Finch cover, where the Predator stands atop the Fantastic Four building, holding Iron Man's decapitated head) to wet your appetite, looking forward to getting that issue, on comic book day.

I believe the Marvel writers will tap into the culture and lore a bit further, so I'm looking forward to it once again... since, I read them when Dark Horse had the license.

It is coming to MY D+ at least, here in Norway, but we don't have Hulu over here so that might be why.

Thanks, I got rid of Hulu and ESPEN, I just have Disney+. I can watch it on another platform, but I will have to wait a couple of days after release which will suck... I'm not subscribing to Hulu just to watch Prey.

Just saw Prey. No story spoilers, but here’s what I thought about the movie.

We decided to watch the Comanche dub version, ‘cause of course we did! And that made for a very immersive experience.

I like this movie a lot, but it is hard to compare it to the other films of the Predator franchise. The tone is very different – it isn’t dripping with over-the-top macho testosterone from the get-go, and the score isn’t the faux-tribal action beat thing we’re used to – which makes it feel like a very different movie. More like a Native American historical drama with a Predator creature dropped into the mix. But as a movie, Prey is pretty spectacular, IMHO. Of course, people are gonna hate it ‘cause it got a woman in it, but I’ll do my best to ignore such nonsense.

I am now VERY interested in what direction this will take going forward. I give Prey 9/10.

    Also, Amber Midthunder is bad-butt!
