That would be consistent with what they did for The Clone Wars.

Nuts, they left us hanging in Empire Day and now we have to go a whole month without a new episode?!

The continuation to Empire Day is named Gathering Forces, and it's been aired already on the Disney XD App, it will probably be out on tv this next week, and then comes the hiatus ;)

Given that the show has fairly mixed reviews, I wonder if some retooling is taking place.

A lot of what I've heard is mostly positive; I've heard occasional bits of "meh, it could be better", but I having heard anything scathing said about the show from any particular source.

I'm pretty sure that they had this break in mind when they were producing the show - no information about the rest of the season has come out yet from official sources, yet everything up until "Gathering Forces" had details released from official sources (episode names, plot outlines, etcetera). Right now, Lucasfilm Animation is probably done with a lot of the preliminary work for the second season - any "retooling" that takes place would be apparent there, not in the second half of the first season. Animation is a long process.

The rebels recon video for "Gathering Forces" shows a sneak peak of the next episode and I think even gives a title for the episode. But, I still agree that this break was not for retooling. A Lot of other shows are taking a break for December and they did the same thing for The Clone Wars. Probably to make room for holiday related programming.

    I wouldn't say I've heard anything scathing.

Rather I would say its been mixed between mildly positive to mildly disappointing. Lots of comments about the show being generally "bland" seem to be somewhat common.

I hold an Associates degree in animation so I know that animation can be a long process, though less so when a team is working on it. What isn't a long process though, is producer patience. If the numbers aren't there, they'll stop short.

Precedents I can think of would include the Gil Gerard Buck Rogers series. The first and second seasons are almost entirely different shows. You don't even want to read the proposed treatments for the proposed second season of the original Battlestar Galactica that never was. Same things happened to Space 1999 and Seaquest.

Granted, these are shows that were retooled from season to season, but I'm reasonably certain that it's been done within a single season as well. I can't think of any titles off the top of my head, but those shows generally don't last for more than a handful of episodes after the retooling.

I'm upset at the potential for brilliance in the show being put on hiatus, not the actual show itself. By which I mean the reveal of Fulcrum's identity, the possible inclusion of Ahsoka, Ventress and Bariss Offee in the story, and the proper start of Ezra's training and how far he'll go with that, along with why he and Kanan don't appear or get mentioned in the OT at all. The show itself, quite honestly, could be canned and continued as a series of books, comics or graphic novels, as long as the story continues and improves, as far as I'm concerned.

I believe Disney has already green lighted the second season and they are probably already in production.

They are actually probably wrapping up development on Season Two at this point - the lines are probably already recorded, and all they need to do is to polish and render the hours of footage they've already worked on.

Fair enough. I was just mentally drawing comparison to Harrison Ford's mishap on the set of TFA and the ensuing delays and rearrangements of filming schedules.

Animation schedules are different - usually, the voice acting is recorded before or early on in the animation process (Pre-Production), whereas Harrision Ford's ankle injury happened while the movie was shooting (Production). It's why all the lines for The Clone Wars: The Lost Missions (and that Utapau arc they released not too long ago) were ready even after the show was cancelled by Disney.

I'll go with unfortunate timing. I believe season one was completed before Spark of Rebellion aired and as Pomojema pointed out, season two has most likely already completed the voice recording stages.
