What an excellent news. I read this book years ago and I loved it! Villeneuve is the best choice for sure.

I liked much more Rama than 2001.

That's interesting, I guess I'll finally have to get around to reading those before I see it. I've read quite a bit of Clarke but never those. I think I was wary because the only other series I read of his, the Space Odyssey books, went from amazing to mediocre to bad to awful.

I feel you on the odyssey stance. I was never a fan of the 2001 films. A little too obscure/left field for me.

Well I love the first book/film, though the film doesn't make a lot of sense without the book. The second was passable (the book being much better than the movie but both unnecessary) but the third and fourth books I thought were just garbage.

For me the movie its so much better, i am talking about 2001. Everything its so misterious, visual and sonorous. Its a movie for the eyes and ears, and the plot its up to you.

Yeah for the first movie I'm the same way, the book is great but might explain TOO much. Reading it did increase my enjoyment of the movie though. Also there's a great book about the making of the movie that I recommend, especially if you're interested in how they did all those effects and it goes into Kubrick and Clarke's collaboration quite a bit.
