The new Star Wars FPS (first-person shooter) video game from Respawn Entertainment (the developer behind Titanfall and Apex Legends) appears to have a multiplayer component, according to a job listing seeking employees on the title.

Insider Gaming has discovered a new job listing of a position for a Senior Gameplay Software Engineer at Respawn, specifically tied to the company's untitled Star Wars FPS. Respawn is specifically said to be looking for the 'quality of experience' in developing multiplayer games for this hire, meaning that a multiplayer component in this Star Wars game appears to be likely, even if this listing does not directly confirm this will happen. Most FPS titles feature some kind of multiplayer, either through split-screen or online play, so such a move is not incredibly surprising should the rumored listing be accurate. Plus, Respawn is known for their expertise with multiplayer FPS.

Like most Star Wars projects early into development, details on the Respawn Entertainment Star Wars title are light as the project is mostly mysterious at this time. It appears that the game will utilize Unreal Engine 5, keeping up with typical industry standards. UE5 serving as the template for the new game represents a bit of a departure for Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn, as up until recently, the company encouraged developers to use Frostbite, their in-house engine. Respawn has opted to use a heavily modified version of Valve Software's Source engine and UE4 in recent years though.

Aside from the upcoming FPS, Respawn are now putting the final touches on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a sequel (running on UE5) to 2019's Jedi: Fallen Order. In addition, they are also developing a tactical strategy video game in the Star Wars setting alongside Bit Reactor (ex-Firaxis devs from XCOM and Civilization backgrounds). As it stands, Respawn is handling all of the known Electronic Arts-produced Star Wars titles at this time, given that EA's contract to exclusively produce Star Wars games expired a few years ago. The company is mostly focused on in-house IPs at the moment.
