Rey Dameron?!

Yeah, I agree that that's a bit of a stretch, I just think it'd be a nice twist. Even if it isn't I can see it being a more logical sequence of events linking Rey to the new "crew" than if she is just an unrelated force user.

If she is related to an OT or PT character, I just hope that it isn't a Skywalker. That'd be too coincidental for an enjoyable new trilogy for my taste.

Didn't know that the Han/Leia separation was 6 years pre-TFA. Thanks for the heads up!

As to Kylo "snapping" I figure that this is related to Rey beginning training at the Jedi Temple, or due to some unseen friction. I don't think his leaving the Light Side would conflict with any plot point from Rey's storyline if she does turn out to be a Dameron.

i'm all for Rey not being a Skywalker too, but i feel like trying to attach her to some other OT or PT character is unnecessarily complicated. what purpose would it serve the story for Rey and Poe to be brother and sister (just to play devil's advocate here).

and again, if Ben snapped when Rey was already 13 or 14 years old, she'd already been long since left on Jakku. Ben's snapping is likely not related to Rey in any way, but more about Luke and Snoke.

I just think they have built Rey's back story up so much, if she turns out to be a Dameron it would feel like a let down.

Think Rey's back story has to be something pretty significant now, either a Skywalker a Kenobi a Palpatine.... if she just turns out to be a secondary characters daughter after all this then it would just feel Meh.......

 

I just figure that it would enable a better plot development and a wider range of story options than simply having Poe being a hotshot pilot that Rey falls for, even though they STILL haven't actually met each other.

TFA has constricted Rey's plot development considerably by making her not only Force Sensitive (something that has been established as primarily hereditary in canon), but also by giving her the ability to use those powers... suggesting training. The only group we know of that trained Jedi was Luke's Jedi Academy.

This then suggests that Rey was known to Luke via some connection in the Rebel Alliance or through the new EU. The only link so far is the Dameron family.

That's why. It seems to be confirmed by the tree that was in the ATAT on Jakku, as well as the Pilot doll that was lying in the ATAT.

The theory also means that Poe has a more interesting story to come, and that Rey will be able to investigate her family through other avenues than either simply ignoring their existence or finding out it's Luke, thus fleshing out her back-story a bit more.

With the current theories it makes it too simple while leaving too many obvious problems unresolvable through logical reasoning... i.e. Luke Skywalker being the dad, or Rey just being a random force user.

Both of which make you care a lot less about the characters you should care about.


Totally agree with the second point though. I don't really think Ben's leaving is related if Leia isn't the mom.

I figure that's why they're putting Poe in his own series.

It makes him more important in the story and let's you know a bit more about the family, who actually may be more important to the new Canon than we currently know.

I'm also prepared to put money on the fact that Poe's dad or mom is present in the Rogue One story, either as a main character or as a supporting character.

Mmm so far from what we know about the "Bloodlines" book, Han and Leia are still together 6 years before TFA so I don't think she would be unfaithful to Han with Mr. Dameron lol.

And I add that we also see a tree, a small one, like a bonsai, in Rey's house...
It could be a piece of that force tree.
Also notice that once BB8 met her, he never wants to get away from her.
Maybe BB8 recognized her. And despite we don't know who created BB8 we do know who's BB8 owner: Poe...

 

i still think even if they include poe parents in rogue one... it won't be enough to stop it feeling like a big Meh moment if rey just turns out to be a Dameron.

Theirs just been to much secrecy and build up on screen for her not to be lineage not to be something big.
