Rogue Squadron Confirmed in Rogue One?

    This may come as a no-brainer for some, but this is the first time I've seen anything official about Rogue Squadron participating in the movie.

    "Set between the third and the fourth movies in the Star Wars saga, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One will center on a group of resistance fighters, led by the Rogue Squadron of X-Wing pilots, who unite to steal the Death Star plans and "bring a new hope" to the Old Republic. Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones has officially been cast to play the role of one of the Rogue Squadron members."

    Interestingly, the more I look at that the less I trust it. Haha. Bring a new hope to the "Old Republic?" What does that even mean?

    It sounds to me like it's written by someone who has a vague appreciation for the SW movies, but no real concept of the actual intricacies of the terms that they're using. As far as I was aware, but from my understanding, Rogue Squadron was comprised of the pilots that survived the Battle of Yavin, so if the story is set before ANH even takes place, that's either wrong or has been changed. And The Old Republic refers to the government in place for the GFFA that was "dissolved approximately 1,000 years before the Clone Wars" (according to http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Old_Republic ). So my guess is that the writer is referring to it as being the old Republic (i.e. those in the OT), rather than the new Republic (whatever exists in the ST).
