Just a few minutes ago they revealed the new poster and a BTS reel for R1. I think the poster looks great and liked the footage.

Can anyone please tell me what the insane logic is of showing behind-the-scenes footage of a highly anticpated film is, which kills the 'realism' and 'believeability' of the film?

 

I have to say it. I'm not more excited for this than I was. It looks great, and I am interested to eventually see this. But it's usually very cold in December where I live, so this has not morphed me into the rabid fan who is willing to stand in line in the snow to see it the way TFA did.

Does Jyn say every line like she's having that one big fight that leads to a break up? Sarcastically and with the sense she's rolling her eyes at you internally? So far that's all I've seen. She's not winning me over. Am I not supposed to want my lead character to survive the film, is that it? I've never heard "May the Force be with [you]" uttered with such disdain.

The pilots, the Empire, the battle scenes all look fine. I really like that alien gunner, but I bet it's not in there much.

I agree, with some of your Jyn Erso complaints. To me it sounded cynical or sarcastic when she says "May the Force be with us."

MSW spotted Bail Organa in the footage!

I thought immediately of this one from Saving Private Ryan:

 

I am not so sure about the poster. The top half looks cool (-the death star!-), but the two groups running at each other (-the rebels and storm troopers-) in the bottom half looks disjointed. They do not seem to be shooting at each other but at something else.

 

Awful poster. Composition is weak, and I'm having a hard time believing this was made by a professional working for one of the largest and most lucrative film companies in the world.

Is the Death Star touching the beach planet?

How many suns are there in this system? I count at least three light sources.

Do the Stormtroopers have some sort of anti-sinking-into-the-water-more-than-a-few-inches boots on?

Did they not have a stock of other palm trees to fill in the areas they wanted to be more densely foliated? Just those ten nine trees?

Why are the people so tiny? I can barely make anything out other than a droid and that those on the right are Imperial Stormtroopers.

 

Well, though a lot of folks seem disappointed that the new R1 trailer itself didn't end up online yet, I liked what we did see. True, a lot of it was behind-the-scenes footage, but there did seem to be a bit of in-movie footage as well. And, from what I could see, of that, it didn't seem overly "shaky-cam" laden - which I very much hope carries over to the final movie.

What we saw behind the scenes, though, looked very promising. Some very cool new character and creature designs, and some familiar old ones too. So far, it looks like we've possibly spotted Bail Organa, Grand Moff Tarkin and General Dodonna, the "Death Star droid" (which has always been a favorite robot design of mine since the 2nd wave of Kenner figures in '78/'79), and we're also obviously going to see some good old fashioned X-wing battles, and who knows what else. As massive a fan of ANH as Gareth is, I suspect we'll see some other surprise appearances in the final film.

T'waren't the trailer, of course, but it was a lot of fun to watch nonetheless. (And maybe we'll still get the trailer itself on ABC tonight.)
