SEE-THREEPIO RED ARM DESIGN FOUND ON MEXICAN SODA CAN

Well I'm sure we will see 3po with a red arm in the movie........JUST 6 MONTHS TO GO GUYS!!!!!!!!
And I for one hope it is never alluded to! Bring back the mistique, not everything needs an damn explanation, that was what made the OT so enthralling............our imagination!!!

 

I appologize if this has been covered before, but I just can't keep up with you guys So, with the risk of posting old news...

I can see three explanations for C3PO having mismached limbs.
a) Fashion statement (i.e. "because he/his owner likes it that way") = very unlikely
b) Improvments/upgrades = possible
c) Temporary prostethic replacements for war injuries = seems very likely if C3PO has been involved in a star war raging for an additional 30 years since we last saw him (chronologically). Still, it begs the question why he has not yet been fixed up (like he has been a few times in canon already)? Has there perhaps been a major engagement just last week or thereabouts?

A fourth is
d) Permanent prostethic replacement for war injuries (i.e. he could be repaired but C3PO/owner chose not to out of sentamental reasons) = very unlikely

Can you guys think of other options?

Also, as for not explaining C3PO's alledged red arm & silver leg in order to preserve mystique, I disagree with that. If they have made these changes to C3PO, it is part of that character and arc, and exploring this new side of our rather one-sided comical relief character would be very interesting. If they have just stuck a red arm on him out of whim, then there is no point in it. That said, I do agree that SW should contain a lot of mystique, and it would be a bad idea to explain every weird encounter out there, like the space monster in the asteroid field, or how mynocs can live in and apparently evolved in space, or the Sarlac creature etc. Things encountered and mileu need not be explained, and in many cases explaining them will lessen their worth and dilude the overall saga, but characters need to be explored for all they are worth, UNLESS a character's persona/shtick is to be mysterious (like Boba Fett), in which case less exposition is more character.

This looks like bootlegged merchandise to me.

 

I was thinking the same thing. It reminds me of back when I went to Disney in Orlando. There were all kinds of gas stations and gift shops along the highway in Florida that sold bootlegged Disney merchandise that was supposed to seem like authentic park souvenirs. I'm no expert, but to my untrained eye the store in the background of the pics doesn't look like a store that would be the only one in the world to get early, exclusive new Star Wars merchandise. It honestly looks like the perfect store for... Well, bootlegged souvenirs. Also, in that pic where the three men are standing with the mugs, check out the first mug the guy rightmost has in his left hand. Looks like ANH artwork. And what's that white design on the mug he has in the middle of the other ones? I smell something fishy. These designs could have easily been used to generate attention and business. It also just doesn't look like official merchandise to me. But, I could be wrong. It's definitely intresting nonetheless, I'm intrested in seeing where this goes!

Long time lurker, first post, so it's all down hill. I actually have a hypothesis about this: the body of 3-PO reflects the state of the Skywalker family and therefore, as the chosen representatives of the force, the universe in general. The red arm means that now, matters are worse. Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure the obvious answer is that C3PO had an ED209 glitch and massacred all the Ewoks with his left arm, and it stained his golden alloy red....and that's the real reason we will see no Ewoks in Episode 7!!

 

If you still believe official merchandise is being sold at a Mexican convenience store, then yeah I still have a bridge for you.

Well, in fairness the discussion back then was about whether it was photoshopped.

But you're right. Real photo, but not legit at all.

 

Actually I still think the photo is a cut and paste of the individual characters put together for the can. So it still could be a photoshop...not that it matters.

We already heard about 3P0's arm being red awhile back did we not?

 

A member called Yoda2 first mentioned 3PO having a different coloured arm in March. He also was the first to mention Jakku and the new First Order insignia.

A similar image also appeared in some leaked merchandise shots of some children's furniture at the start of May:

 

Thanks, I knew about the children's furniture but I couldn't remember where I heard about the arm before that.
