    Well, as far as I can tell, this far away Star Wars galaxy doesn’t have a proper designation. Our galaxy has a name. All the galaxies we can observe have names. Even Samsung Galaxies have names.

    So, what does everybody think? Should Lucasfilm actually assign a name to this place we’ve been visiting for so many years? Should it be left well enough alone? Should it be up to George even if it’s not his property anymore? Any suggestions on names they could use?

    Personally, I’ve been calling it ‘Agepha’ (AGFFA) in my own personal head space these days. Sort of sounds like someone with a speech impediment trying to pronounce ‘Agatha’ though. So probably not the best.

    It already has one. It's called "the Milky Way."

    Oh, you meant the GFFA. ;) Personally I think that if it does get a "canon" name, it shouldn't be a name that ties it to any definite galaxy known to Earth astronomers.

    If it gets a name you can be sure that one of the next galaxies that are discovered will get this name too (especially if it's far far away)

    Yeah, I saw that on Wookiepedia. I think it was presented as an archaic term from a primitive culture. Sort of like how the current Yoda run is calling the Force "Stone Power". A little too 'Colors Of The Wind' for my taste. Reminds me of 'Earth Mother' or some other tie-dyed foofarah.

    If there’s someone who truly loves coming up with names for things, it’s George Lucas. The earliest drafts of what would become ANH, were nothing but a series of names: characters, planets, organizations, philosophies, longwinded impractical titles, etc. Everything has a name . . . or two . . . or three. What he made a noticeable omission with though was naming the galaxy where all this stuff takes place.

    A shrewd individual (or someone with simply passable common sense (like moi)) would naturally deduce this was entirely deliberate. He wanted this world he created to remain anonymous - to compliment the escapist aspect. I don’t think a de facto name should be presented in-story, but maybe only an official one for the fans and creators to use uniformly - a standard designator. Do we already have that? Is it AGFFA? Is that good enough?
    Clearly you’ve never heard of Dave: The Unimaginably Horrible, Bringer of Death and Pointy Things. Probably because I just made him up. Still though, I believe that’s check and/or mate :)
