There is a lot about DLF I find confusing....the constant plot switches in TROS (Palpatine wants Rey dead - no, he doesn't; Chewie's dead; no, he isn't, Threepio's lost his memory; no he hasn't) are worse than the odd things their staff tend to say...

I believe "Solo" failed because Disney Studios was stupid enough to release the movie some five months after "The Last Jedi", instead of waiting until December 2018. And I suspect the studio did that because they wanted to release "Mary Poppins Returns" for the holiday/awards season. And that plan certainly went bust. I've encountered too many comments from others who had express regret for not seeing "Solo" in theaters . . . after they had seen it on DVD and streaming.

Sorry, but I don't buy that the film underperformed to the tune of a billion dollars in its projected global box office revenue because of its release date.

The release date did effect Solo, even Bob Iger admitted as much.

Considering Solo came out 3 weeks after Infinity War (yes it was still doing good numbers in that time), like a week after Deadpool 2 (highly anticipated), and a month before The Incredibles 2 (highly anticipated and 10 years since the first film). There's not a lot of breathing room for Solo. So yes, the timing of Solo was not good and any block buster would of done bad in place, especially a film that wasn't liked since Day 1.

No matter how much I hate to admit this, Star Wars isn't the power house once it was. Sadly, MCU took it's place with the void that star wars left during 2006 to 2015. Hopefully one day Star Wars can get the crown again.

    It will.

Sooner rather than later, if Grogu decides to stretch his acting chops and become a movie star. :)

I liked it...far more than TROS.
