Ok… I recently read the teaser from the new novel due to be released in February of 2015, “Heir to the Jedi” which will, of course, be canon. Seems like there will be a love interest for Luke – Not Mara Jade, but a black woman named Nakari Kelen.
Soooo… I’m thinking maybe John Boyega is a Skywalker??? An unknown offspring of Luke Skywalker who may or may not have married this woman.

Isn’t Lucas’ own son half black? George always said that Luke was supposed to sort of be modeled after himself….
I could see this being the mirror of Vader/Luke. where in episode XIII Boyega tells Luke after some great battle: “No…. IIII am your son!” ***GASP!***

And then Boyega is resentful of Luke for never being around as a father and "murdering" Vader, and the whole thing comes full circle for Luke. Both his Father and his Son are servants of the Dark Side, and once again he must sacrifice his own family to save the galaxy from the Skywalker line.

    Whaddaya think?

Listen I'm all for diversity, and I have absolutely no problem with Luke having a mixed race son/ daughter. But honestly...John Boyega? I've seen this same idea posted both here and on other boards and it drives me mad. John Boyega is 100% black. Not 50%. 100%! There is absolutely no scenario where a blond hair/ blue eye Mark Hamill fathers John Boyega. That is past laughable.

I do think however that Maisie Richardson Sellers could possibly pull off being Luke's daughter. She's the person who most intrigues me for that spot.

I hear ya... I do.... but would you ever guess that Lenny Kravitz was half white, or that (Insert secondary example)? It's not out of the realm of possibility. But more importantly; what are your thoughts on the who the son of Skywalker might be??? Elaborate...

Where did you find the information that Luke will have a black female love interest in “Heir to the Jedi”, I have not seen that mentioned anywhere...

And if Boyega is a ripe choice for a love child, so would Lupita Nyong'o I would think... would it?

I found this description on TheForce.Net: "tall woman with dark skin and a cascade of tightly curled ringlets framing a narrow face". It's in the Del Ray sampler.

I think that Heir To The Jedi is meant to mainly be a homage to the really old EU, as was the case for the Empire & Rebellion series (that it would have been a part of had Disney not stepped in regarding canon) regarding portrayals of Han and Leia. Luke went through a lot of love interests before settling on Mara Jade.

We actually considered writing a Blog article for this very theory. However, the novel takes place right after the battle of Yavin which makes the timeframe really dicy for Luke to have been the father of a kid who is in his early twenties -- between Yavin and Episode VII is about 36 or so years. So it doesn't seem likely.

However, I kind of like the idea that Boyega is a second generation stormtrooper, perhaps a son of Zare Leonis??? Maybe not, but I think this might hold more potential.

Lupita?? She is from Africa!!! She doesn't have so much as .0001 European ancestry. Listen...Lupita is absolutely stunningly beautiful, but frankly she's barely believable as Lando's daughter. To say nothing of Luke.

    For Luke's offspring it's likely:

Maisie Richardson Sellers - the fact that she is in the cast but still hasn't been officially announced is strange ,and leads me to believe that JJ Abrams and his mystery box have something major in store for her....and us.

Domhnall Gleeson - looks the most like Luke, with blondish hair and blue eyes. He would be perfect casting if (and that's a BiG if) Mara Jade was the mother. Again, the EU is dead but that doesn't mean they won't borrow from it....from time to time...

Oscar Isaac - if you want to know what the offspring of Luke Skywalker and a black woman might look like look no further than Issac. He's also the perfect age (mid 30's) to line up to the "Heir to The Jedi" novel timeline. It's a stretch given that Isaac isn't at all black, but he could at least pull off the mixed race thing if you squint just enough.

I really like the Oscar Isaac idea! He just looks like a calm, cool and tough sort of guy. Id like to maybe see him heading up the new Jedi order if Luke is in-fact missing.

I think we're maybe obsessing a bit too deeply about how much alike parents and children are supposed to look. I've seen people who very closely resemble one parent and not so much the other, and I've seen other folks who look like more of a blend between the two. And sometimes you see a kid who is a total throwback to a grandparent

On top of that, movies are rarely cast with all that much attention paid to how much the kids resemble the parents.

Personally, I don't get the feeling that John Boyega is going to play Luke's son. If he does, and if they create an interesting relationship between the two, I'll be fine with it.

I also don't get the feeling Boyega is Luke's son. He's clearly the star or one of the new big three but I think the cast might be four and not three. I'm thinking Gleeson is the mystery son and a larger role than people realize.

IF anyone is Luke's kid it would have to be Gleeson. In reguard to Mara Jade, I know the EU is "dead" but isn't she dead by this point in the EU time-line?
They could rework her character and make her Luke's son's love-interest (Gwendoline Christie for example).

I really like this idea. I also hope its true, but I have to remind myself not to get too attached to the idea because I try NOT to have preconceptions before watching a movie.

If Boyega is Luke's son, then how would he have ended up a stormtrooper?

Boyega being a stormtrooper is as credible as Boyega being Luke's son. It's all just rumors.

    very true Viral.
'credible' is the key word when trying to guess this stuff.

the big twist from the OT came in the second movie (no internet and i was very young.. so i honestly did not see it coming) when...don't click it if you don't wanna know lol..
Vader told Luke that he was his father!!!!!

in my opinion if JJ wants to surprise us with a moment like this.. he will probably need to walk the tight rope with whats 'credible'.

in a galaxy where Anakin had no father at all, where no sod recognised R2 from film to film even though he was pretty much in every important scene and Jar Jar was given powers within the galactic senate.. i'm happy to play along and believe whatever they give us for the new films lol.
