With the advancement of technology it is easy that we lose some data. I recently read the biography of Edward Snowden and also in the book it is said that data are also collected in old fashioned ways because computers are not always reliable.
But if I can say, with Star Wars they did a great job. Not only the movies moved from VHS to digital, DVD and bly ray formats but also the films have been remastered with new colors and new scense. I am worried of course but nonetheless for now I am quite satisfied.

    Something like...

A Star Wars frame by frame comic book style version with it's own projector you just slid the cell strips through it and put it on the wall. I was devastated when it died.

    Star Wars view master slides.

The OT original VHS pan and scan
    The OT THX Edition letterbox
The Special Edition set VHS letterbox
Phantom Menace deluxe VHS w/art book, film strip, etc (this or the Matrix was my last VHS purchase, they were close together so I don't recall) letterbox.
    The Special Edition set DVD
    Attack of the Clones DVD
    Revenge of the Sith DVD
    The complete saga bluray
    The Force Awakens 3D w/digital
    Rogue One 3D w/digital
    The Last Jedi digital
    The Last Jedi 3D import
Solo 4k (too dark for 3D but I'll probably get it just to try it and for completion's sake)
    Star Wars digital
    The Empire Strikes Back digital
The Return of the Jedi digital
    Attack of the Clones digital
    The Phantom Menace digital
    Revenge of the Sith digital
The Rise of Skywalker digital 4k

I'm thinking I had another VHS set between the original and THX versions too but I think that has pretty much been my journey.

The only tapes I have are the THX Return of the Jedi and the Phantom Menace but no VCR to play them. I have all the digital age stuff though.

I’ve only been into Star Wars for the last few years, so my collection isn’t too big or interesting.

    I currently have the:
    • DVD box set of Episodes 1-6 from 2015. (Came with 12 discs total.)
    • The Force Awakens DVD
    • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story DVD
    • The Last Jedi DVD
    • Solo: A Star Wars Story Blu Ray
    • The Clone Wars Seasons 1-5 Collector’s Edition DVD Set
    • The Clone Wars: The Lost Missions (Season 6) DVD
As you can tell, I was a little late on the transition from DVD to Blu Ray. I’ll pick The Rise of Skywalker on Blu Ray as soon as I can, but I think I’m just gonna stick with digital from here on out.
