We've had speculated that Starkiller is the planet Illum, converted.
Based on the new galactic map.
I've just got the Visual Guide for Christmas (sorry, it is in czech, as it was bought here in my country, so any scans won't help you with info) and there is this bit about Starkiller base translated:

''Starkiller was built on an ice planet, mainly because there is a huge bed of crystals inside, that help convert the sun energy into a deadly ray''

+ some info about the supposed technology that does that, by pseudo-science terms.

PS: There is lot of cool info, that actually dates some things back to the Prequels, Clone Wars, Original Trilogy and such. Like senator from Naboo on Hosnian etc. Pablo Hidalgo made a great job

PSPS: Rebel transport is actually a B-Wing mish-mash convert, called B-Wing Mark II.

If Starkiller Base was Ilum, the ending of TFA has some interesting implications for the future of lightsaber construction. The prequel Jedi always went to Ilum for lightsaber crystals.
