Not because there's some easter egg or tease, but for the music. I've been to see the film twice now, and each time most people have gotten up to leave once Abrams' name comes up on the screen. Staying for Williams' finale is 100% part of the experience. It's part of what makes going to the movies so wonderful. That music is not simply there to dress up the credits. It's the perfect way to wrap up the whole experience.

I've come across some people complaining about this score, that's it's weak or not as memorable. It's really growing on me personally, because it seems to fit properly with the film as it moves along. So much of what Williams did for the prequels was butchered in the editing of the film. Some cues were used and reused haphazardly ("we have another chase, let's use that chase cue again...") To my ears, that is not the case in The Force Awakens. His cues were respected and fit within the framework of the film more or less where they were intended, just as they had been in the original films. Williams is more than just a composer, he is a storyteller. I think the film will continue to be enriched by the accompanying score on future revisits.

"Rey's Theme" and "Jedi Steps" are both great. I also like the music during the movie's most memorable scene. I'm sure more of it will stand out to me in time. Overall, the score isn't as good as Empire's (what is?), but I think it's better than RotJ or RotS. Your point is well taken. The end credits music is always the best part of a John Williams score to listen to, when it's just music for music's sake.

Wish I could. Both times I saw it my theater cut the credits 1/3 of the way through to force people out so they could clean for the next showing. I was pissed.

Wow, I've never heard of that before. I'm pretty sure that's a violation. Guidelines regarding film credits are fairly strict.

I'm pretty sure If I had said anything they would have said it was an "Accident". But the 5 guys waiting with sweepers outside, and the line of people 100 deep to get in outside the theater tell me otherwise.

If it looked like where I went - I can understand it. I'm always disgusted when I'm leaving cinema because of one thing - people act like pigs. There's popcorn literally EVERYWHERE on the floor. Like if they do not care that someone will have to clean after them.

You should be. You paid good money to see a complete movie.
It's the theater's responsibility to be adequately staffed for cleanup, or to schedule screenings so that there's sufficient time between screenings.
@DarthBinks is right: it IS a violation! The theatre is contractually obligated to show the complete film including credits.
File a complaint with Disney distribution (including exact theatre location and showtimes).

If I'm correct this is the credit music (partially), the whole soundtrack is on Youtube btw :)

I don't think it's a question of being "memorable," rather that it's forgettable in comparison to The OT and The PT .

    True, but, to be fair:
Eat popcorn from a cheap bag with a friend in a dark house in a tight confining chair while being distracted by a star wars movie.. 2 hours prior to being evicted from your house.
    That's the average moviegoer's perspective.

Regarding the soundtrack.. I love it. "Rey's Theme" is WONDERFUL. "March of the Resistance" is great, a theme song for the good guys. We never really got a dedicated march song for the rebels. "The Falcon"... OMG this is my new haul ass song while I'm out driving. I've been doing a lot of toggling between track 6&7 over the past two nights at work.

I've listened to the entire soundtrack but only two caught my attention - "Rey's theme" and "The Jedi steps and finale" - they're awesome and I'm listening to them over and over again :D

Whether or not to take a minute to write and send an email isn't our call:
    ...it's @Rebo's.
I was just putting the suggestion on the table. :)

When the credits ended I began thinking. While listening I definitely heard the main theme, Luke's, Leia's, and the imperial march, and smaller quotes of other things. I couldn't think of any new leitmotifs (themes for a particular character). Then I thought, "Well, did I instantly know Luke's or Yoda's theme after watching the original trilogy for the first time?" No. I didn't. I only knew the main one before I had seen the films because it came up in popular culture all the time. After watching these movies more, the themes get ingrained into you. Especially when you play them. I can sing you every little part and nuance of the main theme on command (Rebel theme really but anyways).

Then I thought, "What did we get from each movie that a general Star Wars viewer and member of first world society would know?"
IV- Main/Rebel theme, Luke's theme, Leia's theme, Cantina Band
V- Imperial March (Appeared on V's soundtrack first)
VI- Nothing unique from here I can think of. Some might recognize the Forest Battle.
I- Duel of the Fates. Maybe Anakin's theme but not even I would recognzie that without thinking about it.
    II- Across the Stars.... maybe?
III- Again nothing memorable and unique. In fact, I've asked friends what they remember and people say Duel of the Fates because they mistake that as the music that Obi-Wan and Anakin fought over.

Correct me if you think I left something out that a normal person would recognize. When people say things like "There wasn't anything new I could hum when I walked out of there," there are a lot of valid reasons for that: Back when IV (or, A New Hope, or back then just Star Wars) came out for the summer of 1977, tons of people watched it multiple times due to the heatwave in much of the US (theaters had air conditioning) and it being something comparatively original and exciting to anything before. That generation had that music drilled into them, carried on through V and VI. I don't have a time machine but I'm pretty certain if you asked someone to hum Luke's theme after watching IV for the first time, it would be an unlikely fulfilled request. When Phantom Menace came around, it was simply different. Disappointment in the film by many definitely detracted from the promotion of the music (Except for Duel of the Fates, that awesome song). That attitude continued through II and III more or less. Now, with VII, it's been over 3 decades of having John WIlliams' brilliance drilled into today's adults and into their kids. I wouldn't blame Williams for not making a new theme in a saga as immediately memorable in two days as songs that have had over 10,000 days to become memorable. The comparison, in any capacity, is unfair in my opinion.

With The Force Awakens, we face an unprecedented situation. These iconic themes have to be melded with new ones as the 9 film saga continues (I II and III being prequels to the original Trilogy didn't have this issue any where as much). Anything new is understandably met with criticism. I love the Force Awakens soundtrack, but not as much as some of the other films or other John Williams scores in general. He had such a difficult task with this, and I think the next film will really determine whether this last trilogy can bring anything new and truly memorable. Personally, I really like Rey's theme and can already envision those arrangers making versions and medleys for bands and orchestras across the world. It's certainly not memorable yet, but it, along with the other new pieces, will have their chance. As objective as I'm trying to be, I'm inherently biased towards the original Trilogy. It's music was better than the Prequels to me. Most would agree with me, but if the prequels had been shot and released before 4-6, would we be in a different world? Probably. I look forward to how John Williams captures our ears with 8 and 9. There's definite potential and I'm so glad he's going to finish what he started almost 40 years ago. I look forward to others' views.
