Tattooine destroyed

Ok, We're spolied now.

 

I believe tatooine will be destroyed ON THE SURFACE as the empire seeks to destroy scum & villany aswell as force users but to be destroyed by a super weapon HELL NO as it has already happened to Alderaan.

 

This makes sense, i've had concerns over how the ball will get rolling in act 1.. The pacing/tension of the story has to be just right or it will feel forced.

It was Alderaan. Dantooine was to far out for a demonstration of the power of the Death Star and only showed remnants of an old Rebel base. It was never destroyed

As the Holocaust showed most troops/Wilshere will follow orders even if it involves crime against humanity. Destroying a whole planet and potentially millions of people would be such a crime.

Finn could be the only Stormtrooper who has the courage and moral fortitude to do what he can to either prevent it or save some people on the planet.

Or perhaps he works with Luke and Rey to Foil the plan.

Any ideas what the New Super weapon could be? Not another deathstar

I just hope they Empire doesn't build a long exhaust port (large enough for x-wing to fly through) that leads to it's power source. Big engineering fault in a ANH.

I don't think, and I had a thread last week on the same subject, coruscant being the target, that destruction will be the weapon's effect on a planet. What if, it transforms it, not only the planet, but its inhabitants?

What if some sort of Grand Scale Jedi (or Sith) mindtrick, that enslaves masses.

Taking their mind hostages.

That would be a huge morality puzzle for the New Alliance to deal with...

People with no free will, turning against them, armies of worlds... What will they do? Bomb them?

 

I'm just a little disappointed that we are once again back on Tatooine, that useless dirtball..

I mean really? Who would willingly live there? Why not Naboo or Coruscant?

I was hoping it would be a moon on the outer rim.. Could this be the first Star Wars film not to add any new planets to the roster?

 

It depends why we're there, really. If the recent rumour of Rey being an orphan who was raised by aliens is true, then yeah, that's not good. But if Rey is a force-sensitive "researching" past Jedi masters, she has a valid reason to be there. It is the home of Anakin and Luke Skywalker, two of the greatest Jedi ever. If she's there because she's trying to learn if the planet influenced their development, we have a good reason. In fact, if Rey is researching Jedi and Kylo is collecting Sith artefacts (as rumoured) then we have a parallel development of future hero and villain. That's an interesting route to take. Maybe Rey is like an archaeologist or geologist, studying the planet?....

 

I really like that idea! Or if the weapon is a virus that only kills organic life, not destroying the planet itself ala the Death Star. Leaving the infrastructure in tact to be raided and usurped by the Empire.

 

That's definitely an angle... but then we'd have to ditch a popular theory involving the hunt for a certain artifact. (Backing up a bit, lots of people speculate Finn is on the run either WITH an artifact Kylo and the chrometroopers want OR Kylo also crashes on Tatooine in pursuit and LOSES this artifact... kicking off a Star Wars version of The Amazing Race... find the lightsaber, unlock secret/use it to locate its maker/craftsman, then force maker to divulge Luke's whereabouts, etc.)

Why would anyone want to destroy the planet where our Maltese Falcon went missing?

I can buy the rhyming/tweaking of Alderaan's destruction in Episode IV... but somehow I think the better pressure builder/plot driver is a race to find the artifact. My Bobo opinion of course.
