Oh yeah, all the pundits who said this wasnt in the movie for sure will be baffled :D me including.
I was saying to myself just before the movie was about to end "well this was a nice non-force related gangster movie" and than this shows up.

I'm glad I was too busy to look for spoilers on the internet before the release. So even though I have seen all of Rebels and Clone wars this hit me like a freight train

Went to the midnight screening last night and was not expecting the Maul cameo at all but thought it was great!

The movie was enjoyable and it had some really good elements.

All I want now is more about Maul and the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate!

    Watched movie.
This film is actually good. Not perfect but good.
Maul is ok if we look the film.
I have hower intellectual contempt for Maul resurection, and I can hear many people have it to,despite its Canon many people have same first impression: Maul
was cut in half by Obi Wan trugh his abdomen.
EP 1 was meh but Obi-Wan killing Maul was actually maybe the best and most remembered scene....

So..Maul is ok but bringing him back is still simply lalaby for many.

George ...why didn't you made his twin brother instead resurrection?

Thinking more about how this could lead to a sequel.

A lot of the time in super hero movies, we never really see the hero square against his main villain in the first film, instead subbing in a lesser villain so we can focus on and get to know the hero. The Dark Knight trilogy waited for film 2 to introduce Joker, for example. Iron Man waited until the third installment to introduce the Mandarin (...sort of). Spider-Man homecoming has so far at most teased some of Spidey's better known rogues gallery members (and there's a ton) while mostly focusing on the less popular Vulture (and still managed to be one of the best villains in a comic book movie in a long time).

Since this thread is only spoiling the Maul scene, I'll tag the rest...

So as far as I know, in Solo, we don't see a lot of the iconic characters we were expecting. Jabba's only really alluded to, the ESB bounty hunters never show up, nor really any other previously known bounty hunters as far as I know. We don't even get Greedo.

But this set us up for a really interesting potential sequel. We now know that Qi'ra is working for Maul, who runs a criminal syndicate. Meanwhile, Solo and Chewie are going to Jabba- likely a different syndicate.

I sense a gang war coming.

We could maybe see Jabba have all the ESB bounty hunters on his side (and fighting alongside Han, which might be neat), or maybe some initially work for Maul. It would be cool to see IG-88 fight Bossk, 4-LOM vs Dengar, etc.

Plus, I'd imagine Cad Bane and Boba's rivalry could reach new (and probably mortal) heights if they're on opposite sides of the conflict.

And, of course, it's likely that Maul needs to lose his syndicate before the events of Rebels, since we really don't get much indication of their existence around that time.

I know it's all hypothetical now- but the fact that we could potentially get a film even remotely similar to that is really exciting!

Since I'm a spoiler guy even before seeing the movie...
if he's a hologram, why does he use a lightsaber?

I think it was just used to make his appearance more cool and maybe to show the audience who’s still doubting that it really is Maul, apart from his lightsaber, John Powell also adapted the “Dual of the Fates”-melody.

Didn't really dig the cameo, it was ok though. Heard a couple of confused reactions in the cinema also when he appeared.

Think also it should have been Peter Serafinowicz doing the voice again, as opposed to Sam Witwer but that's nothing major.

Just didn't quite hit the spot for me but at the same time it's not a complaint.

I think there's one more potential explanation for Maul's sudden appearance. To most of the everyday moviegoer, Maul died in episode 1 when he was sliced in half. However, now we have seen that it's possible to survive such an attack.

Who was also attacked and cut in half? Snoke. If Maul could have survived getting sliced, surely Snoke can also. I suspect that one potential reason that we saw Maul in Solo was to provide legitimacy to the rise of Snoke in episode 9.

People had a surprised gasp in my theater and some wanted to cheer but didn't out of respect for others. I went to my theater's fan event so I'm pretty sure 98% of the people in the particular theater knew about Maul's reserrection. I personally wasn't surprised (because I spoiled myself about him) but it was cool to see him on the big screen again. I think it was a good call on using Sam's voice as Maul since he voiced Maul in Rebels. Solo is more closer to Rebels time line than TCW so I thought that was a very good continuity on their part.

Glad to see Maul again ….*but*….if there are Han Solo sequels (maybe?) Maul and Han can never cross paths or it will mess with canon. Han states in the OT that he's been from one end of the galaxy to the other but has never seen anything to make him believe in The Force. A confrontation with Maul would definitely shake Solo's cynicism.

Which I disliked very much. Probably my only major nit right now was his cameo and how bizarre he looked

It would be cool to see a kenobi film where he is forced to go to mandalore or something to help someone he cares about and ends up accidentally facing maul...would be a good way to bring him back i think

They should have used some prosthetics or vfx to slim down his face...I mean from what ive seen of him in person to his face, he is an extremely fit athlete but his face is the effects of aging but i'm sure they could ahve worked it better.

The Darth Maul cameo came as a total, enjoyable surprise (though I do agree he looked very different and like and older, melted Darth Maul).

I saw Solo with my friend who is just an average Star Wars moviegoer and they were confused when Darth Maul appeared on screen as last time they saw him, he died in Episode I. So the cameo is interesting for us who know the lore of Darth Maul, but more of a wtf moment for those who only watch the films, leaving them to play catch up.

Having Maul is this film has me excited for future films as it really was a great nod to hardcore fans that follow everything Star Wars.

I’ve felt the sequel trilogy films & Rogue One too played it safe by not having other characters from either the comics, animated shows etc as regular movie goers wouldn’t understand their significance but this could be the start of seeing more of the wider universe integrated into the main movies!

Rogue one had Saw Gerrera... who first appeared in The Clone Wars ;-) apart from that, I agree it is nice to have these expanded universe characters in the live action films.

The Maul cameo was pretty well handled. But at first he looked kinda weird and old. But it makes sense after all. I liked his short appearance.
