Well, last week I watched R1 again and at a certain point we see the hologram of Galen Erso, I didn't pay attention to it in the past, but since this "CGI-look" of Maul I was paying attention to it and it appears that also Galen looks CGI in the hologram! As if he came straight from a video game featurette. Maybe this is their new approach to holograms...

Would showing Maul as still alive after being cut in half be a way to show the casual movie goer (the people with no knowledge of the animated series') that being cut in half doesn't necessarily kill you?

Could this be the foreshadowing of the return of Snoke in IX?

First - You're Absolutelly Right - Darth Maul Looks so Cool, he could became a super mega character BUT he was DEAD, he was cut in half, Obi-Wan beat him, forget about him afterwards.

Second - You're Wrong - Clone Wars TV Show are everything the prequel Movies promised but fail to deliver, thei are so, so good.

I Also believe Darth Maul shouldn't be in Solo, simply because Maul was dead at that time and Han only knew Force users in the Cantina in Tattoine, so he fell completelly ot of place here. If Lucasfilm want to use Maul, and really encourage them to do it because he's just so cool, use him in a time period BEFORE Episode I, and that might be pretty cool also, have Maul eliminate Palpatine opponents in the Shadows.

Actually Han leaves right before he appears. So he is unaware of Maul and the Force. Moving forward, its risky what they do if they want to do a sequel.

I’m at a Film & Comic convention tomorrow & Ray Park is in attendance. Should I ask him if he’s signed up for any more movies?! See if I can bribe some info out of him as my Jedi mind powers are unfortunately not that strong

Definitely ask about cameo, you probably already know the answer to question is that he can't say. However, signing someone to three films is somewhat of a common place thing.

That's a good thought. Alternatively, possible testing the waters for more non-movie characters like Ahsoka/Sloane/etc. Maul's great because he's technically a movie character, but he's had far more development in the animation and comics, so he's a nice way to sort of wean movie audiences into accepting that kind of thing.

    I...

I can't really argue against that. Maybe?

It's gotta be a Fett vs. Maul showdown involving the Hutts vs. Crimson Dawn.

Now that......I'm here for. Like....right fracking here for.

I wanted to start a new thread, but don't have enough privileges. Seems like everyone is caught up with the Maul cameo that they missed R2D2 on Kessel. Anyone else think this is him? R2D2.JPG R2D2-2.JPG

Assuming that Snoke is a more powerful Force user than Maul, it would be logic he survived as well. Although I doubt it a lot JJ will bring him back.

So I met Ray Park today & unfortunately he gave away absolutely nothing about whether he is involved in any sequels to Solo or other films. All he said is that he would jump at the chance & would be grateful to know so he could get training for it!

And if they do... will the audience view it as anything other than a complete rebuke of Rainy and TLJ as they continue to basically freeball it? Also remember that this was dropped in very late in the Solo process, according to reports. Actually giving them credit for 'planning' that? Ya... I doubt it.

That said... I thought it was excellent speculation by StoneRiver, or at least something they could use.

Right, but now that the fandom is so salty, we may never get that movie... :(

Funny that they say KK and LFL is ruining Star Wars, when they're the ones who have possibly doomed something as awesome as that movie.

I agree. When I re-watched it to prep for IW, I couldn't believe how much of the movie played into various plot points for BP.

I accidently saw a leaked pic of Maul only a couple of day before the movie and I just assumed it was part of Dryden Vos' collection. I didn't think Maul would actually be in the movie, but man that scene was so good. I heard Sam Witwer's voice and I was just in awe. I can't wait to see where else they will go with this character. (Not far though, since Rebels killed him off already ).

Good catch but I just think it is an just another Astromech Droid. R2D2 would have been somewhere with Bail or Cpt Antilles at this point.

I guess I'm slightly disappointed by this cameo. And if they're not going to follow it up, it's utterly pointless and serves no purpose.

I don't follow the current EU, but I had read that he'd been resurrected in the 'toons and whatnot, and it just made me cringe and roll my eyes. I saw it as just another cheap bit of fan service - a character brought back for no other reason than 'hey, he looks cool and mean'.

But it didn't matter either, because it was EU and could just be ignored. Except now it can't.

Not that I object to an EU, but my personal feeling is that it should never have any bearing on events in the films. To me any EU stories should exist in a kind of self-contained causality - by which I mean they should have no noticeable bearing on the stories of the films. You should be able to take them or leave them.

Of course, if we ignore the EU, then from a purely movie point of view, Solo (currently the fourth film sequentially on the timeline) is an all new surprise reveal, the 'oh my god he's still alive' moment for a purely cinematic audience. Nothing wrong with that per se. But unless they are going to do follow-up films, then his appearance is totally pointless and is just the worst kind of fan service - and it seems from interviews that it was a last minute choice to say 'oh yeah - let's make him be the big-bad behind the scenes', which doesn't suggest much of a plan for where they were going to go with it. It just feels like trying to hard too have a 'big thing' reveal, that felt a bit out of place in the context of this film.

But now that's it done, they have got to go somewhere with it. Otherwise we're just left with a series of films with a pointless appearance at the end of one of them.

I will say this however, that despite my misgivings about his resurrection, it hasn't ruined my childhood and I am not going to declare that Star Wars is now dead to me. :)

His resurrection was shown in TCW which was never considered "EU" anyways. It was always canon (even before pre-disney buyout) and his resurrection came from George Lucas himself. It makes sense for him to show up based on the information we got in TCW and Rebels. Don't hate Disney for using a character that was brought back alive by the creator himself.

Well, I don't "hate" anybody for it. That's way too strong a word for my thoughts on it.

But personally I consider anything that is not the live action films to be Expanded Universe - cartoons and all. Even when written by the creator.

I also think it should be a one way street - EU should fit in with the canon of the movies, but the movies should be free from being beholden to them.

So yeah - have an EU story arc where it turns out Maul survives being sliced in half and a fall down a pit, but I prefer it to be self-contained, where by the end he's dead again like it never happened from the perspective of the movies.

I would strongly guess that this was the original plan - Maul gets resurrected in TCW and ultimately gets killed (again?) in TCW. The abrupt cancelation of TCW prevented this from happening and moved the ending into Rebels... which expanded the timeline of the resurrection long enough that it could overlap Solo.
